Associated Press Day Wire Service For 61 Years Devoted to the Best Interests of Key West VOLUME LXII. No. 42. Neutrality Of Depends On Scope Of Nazi Troop Movements ‘SEVERAL CASES British Warn Sofia That Co-operation With Ger- many May Break Diplo- | matic Relations (By Anwociated Press) Bulgaria‘s continued neutrality will depend entirely on the scope of Nazi troop movements in the; country, London warned today. As repercussions from yester- day’s Turkish-Bulgarian non-ag- gression pact spread over Europe, | British statesmen sent to Sofia a blunt declaration that co-opera- tion with Germany may result in an end to diplomatic relations with England. British their belief that Turkey’s mutual spokesmen reiterated assistance pact with the will not be affected by the Bui- garian treaty and predicted a statement from Istanbul clarify- ing Turkey's new position. Most Balkan diplomats treaty as a Adolf Hitler, e the however, and a lightning move against Greece is, expected at any time. As most | diplomats view the _ situation, | Turkey, perhaps under Russian pressure, has now agreed to give Hitler a free hand in the Balk- ans. Berlin has been jubilant since the treaty was announced yester- day -and Nazi officials consider that Greece has now been hand- ed the alternative of calling off the a German army to smash through on her flank. In Sofia, high-ranking govern- ment officials feel the pact has materiaily reduced the chances of an armed conflict in their coun- try and Russia is reported view- ing the new situation in a favor- able light. British reports, in spite of Bul- garia’s insistence that German troops have not moved into the country, indicate an army of some 75,000 German soldiers could be moved to the Greek frontier within 10 days and word has reached London that hun- dreds of barges are’ being con- structed on the Danube for use as floating bridges.
