PAGE FOUR -: SOCIETY : BUMPSTED FAMILY TOOK KEY WEST BY STORM IN PLAYERS’ PERFORMANCE |FOUND — Camera By A..H. A. “Yes, sir! Yes Sireee! That was| His portrayal of that old scoun-| -at the Chamber of Commerce. ! ———— | drel Sam Green,, grave-digger, if I. erce. 'Returns To Camp a mighty fine thing—that “Brok- en Dishes’ play put on by the Key West Players for the Navy} Relief Society Siree! You bet!” That’s the way Cyrus Bump- sted—bless his old heart—would last night. Yes have given orchids to the pro-j duction if he was in a position to write this article (which he isn’t, or couldn’t)—and it would just about typify the consensus! of opinion concerning the third attempt of the Players to prove their permanency as a going ins- } titution in this city. It’s quite definite, all agree, that the Players will go on and fill an important part in the art world of Key West. Any doubts existing after the first two per- formances (could there have been a few?) were cancelled last night as perfect acting with- out a single dropped line or mis- cue combined to rate the produc- tion as truly professional. George Mills White classes as a top-notch musician hereabouts. Little did we or many others think it possible he could mix up! the choice brand of acting he put together as the leading ter of “Broken Dishes”. did it, and now and forever rates as a two-letter man in music and drama. The longest, by far, part assignment we have seen in many a day was handled flaw- lessly to the great delight of the} ; White, audience. Jenny Bumpsted, with her Chester Armstrong-complex, and how she worked it for a fare-the- well until the final denouement —admirably played by Mrs. Rob Roy Ricketts, a veteran of many stage productions, ranked tops in the orchids’ department. Opening scenes expertly handled and led by Mrs. Ricketts did much to start the play off on an agree- able basis with the audience. Bill Clark, the grocer; with much higher ide Siree, and his loved one, Elaine Bumspted, “Ellie” to her father, played by Ensign Gerard Bogart and Mary Morgan ranked right up at the top. These actors are going places in drama—you bet! Ensign James Gerberding, mentioned in this column before as a finished actor, lived up to that reputation again last night. Scouts Te Held Bingo Party Seen between the acts at the play at High School auditorium last night were Boy Scouts of Troop 52, Ernest Avila, Henry Soldano, Calvin Cates, Odes Mc- Killip, Ernest Perez, Allen Perez, William Soldano and Oscar Avi- la. They trying to sell tickets to an affair, the proceeds of which will be used to defray their expenses to go to camp at Tampa starting July 7th. One prominent business man promised them material aid if they would have their leader, Mr. Milton Sawyer, call at his office one day next week. They aid by were were also promised “Richy” of the U. S. S. Crownin- | shield. The affair is a Bingo Party at the Parish Hall ey sday evening. An advertis where in this issue gives culars. Room for Improvement... CHEELY Lumber Corp. 731 Caroline Street you please, was highly enjoyable. New-comer to acting—his first try at it, too, we understand, was Lieut. Commander Ray | Byrns. “What say?” in response to Sam Green's “old goat” aside, characterized Rev.
