A general planning committee | for sponsoring WPA projects, | with Charles Taylor as chairman, met last night at the’ City Hall when the matter was‘taken up for discussion. Mr. Taylor gave a thorough outline of the plans as submitted for a voluntary retail sales tax, which was offered as a solution to the existing problem. A two percent tax will be im-} posed, according to the plans of the city, which is.to be collected through the token system. This plan was unanimously approved by those in attendance at the meeting last night, with the mat- ter being referred to the City Council for its stamp of approval. The council will meet in spe- cial‘ session tonight ‘to take up; this matter, and also for the pur-; pose of passing an ordinance which will levy a one cent tax on permost in every official’s mind "I am particularly and favor- lably impressed with the develop- ; ment that has come to Key West [sare myledeparture in 1935", {stated Julius’F. Mr. Stone, in renewing old ac- |quaintances in Key West since his arrival Friday afternoon, has heard of the many problems yet ‘existing in Key West and. on his own initiative, recalling the con- jtacts made four years ago, sug- ‘gested some changes of benefit , to the city. One outstanding sug- | Sestion concerned an effort to ‘create.a sounicipal beach-with all , facilities on government property fat Fort Taylor. He felt that with proper contacts and encourage- ment the project could be. suc- | cessfully put through.
