Child At the recessed session of crim- | imal court which convened this morning with Judge William V. Albury presiding, the case of William T. Demeritt, charged with non-support of his minor child, was placed on trial. The indictment was read by ‘County Solicitor Allan B. Cleare, Jr., to which the. defendant en- tered a plea of not guilty. Selection of the jury began and . at the end of the panel consisted of the following: Leo Warren, James A. Knowles, Frank de Leon, Russell Hoff, Earl W. Higgs and Leonard R. Sawyer. After the examination of sev- eral witnesses, including the child’s mother and __ stepfather, the case went to the jury which returned a verdict of not guilty. A short passage from his letter is quoted | herewith: “I might as well confess that I have beef ruined by the Keys. Nowhere else satisfies me any more. I find working a hopeless task. Visions of green waters sparkling and clear, the rustling of palm leaves one against the other in a southeasterly breeze, warm and caressing from the Gulf Stream, the fishing and the birds, the sunshine all float across the page of paper, or the book, or the sheet of paper in the type- writer. “Believe me I feel like I could chuck the whole thing, cram my belongings in a duffle bag and light out for the Florida Keys and live here forever, or at least maybe die content”. Further along in his letter, Mr. Carter writes that he will be back for another visit in June. He has written Secretary Singleton a letter, received . several days a long letter in his inter-' ago, in which he asks that he be! furnished a catalog of different types of water tanks to be used! on the islands, or Keys, and he has been given all the informa- tion required. Other letters recently received at the chamber are of interest. One is from Miss Julia May Sam- ple, assistant to William L. Wil- son, in the Farm Marketing Bu- reau, who takes another oppor- tunity of finding some way for Key West people to make a little money on the side, and the Cham- ber of Commerce has mailed her samples of fibre from the San- severia for the study of the bu-; reau.
