During Sales At Munici- pal Dock More than $13,000 resulted from sponge sales during the week ending ioday. Yesterday the municipal sponge sales wharf ‘was overcrowded and many of ihe offerings were placed on the .empty spaces adjacent to the dock. % Offerings of wool sponge yes- terday numbered 3,612 bunches, and there were 79 separate offer- ings in lots of from two punches to 266 bunches, practically all of | which brought reasonable. Largest lot offered consisted of 266 bunches for wiich a price of + bids considered offered... This was’! *_ $1,033.99 was refused and the offer was later raised to make the bid $1,400,' which wac accepted. Others of! the larger lots brought prices as follows: For 250 bunches, $1,- 127; 250 bunches, $1,087; 22) bunches, $776.61; 131 bunches, $477.91; 210 bunches, $777.77; 210 bunches, $617. Offerings of yellow sponge numbered 39 and contained 1,375. bunches, which sold for $765.50. The largest sale of these sponges , was ef. 163 bunches for which a price of $100.01 was paid. The next highest price paid was for 134 bunches, which brought $86.99. Grass offerings were very few, only 222 bunches being offered, and the highest price paid was! for 90 bunches which brought $16.79. All ‘offerings brought $44.33. Sales of yesterday, a few straggling ones of this morning and those of the earlier part of the week, brought the total for the week to $13,089.26, and the number of bunches disposed of | to 5,209. OWNER HERE ON YA BRINGS GUIDE wHo CAUGHT 4 TWO SAILFISH AT ONE TIME Albert Pack, Heel company owner with companies in Chicago and Detroit, arrived at the Yacht Basin last night on the 107 foot yacht, “Chieftain.” Captain of the Chieftain is Frank Haskins. Mr. Pack has been coming to Key West for many years. Accompanying the larger yacht is the fishing boat, , captained by G. San- tani. Santani is known as the charter boat captain who caught two sailfish at one time. The sailfish was hooked on the line and when it was brought in, an- other sailfish was pulled in on a long loop of the line which trailed behind the first sailfish. The catch was made in Key West waters. Cc. A sponge sale yesterday netted the sponge fishermen approximately $13,089 for the largest sponge sale.of the year. All yesterday fishing, and Sri Club at their regular} and today sponge drays were’ carting away the sponge, many of them extremely large. This amount and the relief money will be the principal funds available for Key Westers. A “bad break” was the dropping of the kingfish and mackerel markets of the Thompson Fish Company which necessitated shutdown of activi- ties by holding the fleet of 60 boats in port until the market price swells again. For tonight there are benefit Christmas dances on every hand. Pena’s Garden of Roses dance will benefit the Red Cross in their annual drive. The Habana-Ma- drid’s dance will be a benefit for Mercedes Hospital. Raul’s Club will also hold a dance.
