Just why the Slokaks want to become an autonomy is not yet clear, Its population is not predominantly German as is Sudeten Czecho- slovakia. The Nazi program is very economically expansive and very intriguing but the industry, agriculture and productiveness of Czechoslovakia is great and the government very active in the people’s cause. The government has been hostile to Germany for a long time, and friendly to France and Italy. With Italian alignation with Germany, it is thrown more on itself and is in more of a dangerous position. AF.O.L. POLITICKING This column would like facts and figures on the possibility that wage differentials between North and South in the wage-hour bill now before a Senate conference is unfair. Because William Green, president of the A.F.O.L., labor union group, has made the state- ment that unless the same wages for all sections of the country is established he will call on Sen-| ators to defeat the bill. His state- ment implies that, if he wishes, the bill can be defeated. Cer- tainly, universal wage _ scales would prove a handicap to the South. Certainly reasonable wage differentials would not prove as ‘great a handicap to the North. Where for instance employer | profits will be reduced one-fifth in the North, in the South it will go down by halves or even more. The point though is that the labor federations want to show no par- | tiality to any of its members. But they can to employers in different sections of the country. THOMAS IN RIOT Saturday night Norman Thom- as, socialist leader, attempted to speak in Newark, and a demon- stration followed with Thomas’ wooden platform broken down and a lightbulb hurled in his face.
