Woodward, wife of Colonel Woodward, commanding officer of the regiment now in training at Fort Taylor; Mrs. Taylor, wife af Colonel Hugh Taylor, U. S. Army; Mrs. Lou Knowles, Mrs. Robert F. Spottswood. The garden with its lovely ar- Yay of summer blossoms was the setting for the entertainment. Zin- nia’ bordered walks were gay with vari-colored flowers and roses bloomed on the eastern side of| the garden. Hibiscus, golden-| hued crotons, date and. coconut! palms, offered additional attrac- tion to the location selected for} seating the guests. Here an orl chestra from the regimental band; directed by Caesar La Monaca played during the hours of the/ tea, from 5 to 7 o’clock. Punch was served on the en- closed porches and a_ refractory; table with refreshments was plac- ed on the lawn. A group of! young women in summer frocks| served during the afternoon. | This event brought together a! number of officers and town folk who had met on former occasions} and proved a delightful opportun-| ity of renewing former friend- ships and making new acquaint- ances. Comedy-Drama “For Love Of Anne’’ Presented Last Night Proves Big Sucess Entertainment of the first or- ‘der was the presentation of the delightful ‘comedy-drama “For Love of Anne” by a company of local players in the Palace theatre last night. The play was written by Marie Louise Cappick, well known con-' tributor to magazines and society editor of The Citizen, It is 8 cleverly told tale of a “stolen” ‘watch, the theft taking place on Duval street, and the many en- tanglements into which the prin- cipals and others are drawn in the explanation of the mystery. The cast was well chosen and! the assignment of the different roles showed why the director,! Rev. F. X. Dougherty, S. J., has on other occasions had this diffi-; cult task assigned him, All of the characterizations were | Jr, perfectly done, and so artistically; Marguerite and thorough that to give special! maid in the Bellingham praise to the players as a whole | cent McDermott; Willis Nugent, lis the only way in which to do justice to the individuals. The audience was delighted and when leaving the theatre many re- marked that they had paid high| | prices for shows by professional companies that fell far below from an artistic standpoint, the one just: witnessed. The production was sponsored ‘by the Catholic Dramatic Club. Before the performance, during the intermissions and afterward, musie was furnished by the orches- jtra from St. Joseph’s school.
