The Pitates won the first game of the scheduled doubleheader from I Fenix, 8 to 3, but met de- feat at the hands of the Young Sluggers in the nighteap 7-4. Clever direction won the contest for the Sluggers. The first game was featured by three extra base hits from the Pi- rates big guns which caused Pitch- er Sanchez, Fenix, walk out the box in the fifth inning. The blows, a home run and two three bag¢’ hits, came off the bats of Car- bonell, Pena and Castillo, who follows each other in respective order in the line-up. Quintan Loyez, the boy who has set a record which will probably md in Florida for some a led exactly 36 | sco! nings— a.total of four gam two innings yesterday. he had pitched three nine inning games and one seven. This ‘is Lopez’ official recor Quintan’s consecutive scoreless innings was,-brokey in the frame or in ‘the yesterday’s game by the Young Sluggers who successfully put, oyer one of their much practised squeeze plays with a man.an Here is the low down on that|¢ 27th inning or the third round: Armando Acevedo got on base when Henry Mayg muffed a rol- ler to seeond; he went to second on Gates’ sacrifice hit. Fruto a base on balls and the begs were leaded with no one out, Cates was fanned; Gonzalez bunted the piteher, Mayg fielded the base and tossed him out at first. Mayg realized it was too late to catch Acevedo who was scoring andj choose the surest man. Gates tried to make home on’ the play from second base, but was thrown out at the plate. F ‘The game was in favor of the Pirates until the eighth round when the Sluggers connected for seven safe blows including a triple by Bethel for a total of five runs which put the game on ice for the Teague leaders. “The box scores: Fenix ABR.
