MAKE PLANS FOR BUILDING STATE ROADS BIDS FOR VARIOUS PROJECTS TO BE RECEIVED; MANY CONTRACTS TO BE LET FOR WORK (By Associated Pressey TALLAHASSEE, Fia., July 31. —Close upon the heels of the largest single letting of contracts for road construction in the his- tory of the State Road Depart- ment, comes an announcement from Dr. F. A. Hathaway, chair- man of the department, that bids for still more work will be re- ceived and opened by the depart- ment on August third, tenth, and twenty-fourth, the necessary ad- vertisements having been inserted. The rapidity with which the bids are being invited and contracts let, tends to bear out the predic- tion of the chairman that the de- partment’s operations wil] involve a program of eighteen millions of dollars by the close of the present year. Projects which are being adver- tiser for bids are: For August 3—Project 669-V. Road No. 27 (popularly known as Tamiami Trail) Collier county, length 11.91 miles, clearing, grub- bing and grading; project No. 592, road 10, Franklin county, from the Gulf County line to Apalachicola, approximately 7.89 miles in length, clearing, grubbing and grading. For August 10—Project No. 565, road 1, Madison county from the Suwanee river to Madison, ap- proximately 15.99 miles in length to be paved. Alternate bids will be received on concrete, sheet as- phalt, bituminous concrete and bi- tuminous macadam. Efficiency is not being sacrificed to speed; the same scrutiny with which the de- partment observes all bids is be- ing exercised, but the organization having been tightened up, is able to proceed more expeditiously.
