The county was named for Fran- cis E. Marion. Elevation of the county ranges from 120 feet to 210 feet at the highest point, which is in the) vicinity of Irving in the north-| western section of the county. | Marion county is situated in the most narrow portion of the state, the width of the peninsula at line passing through Ocala is about 105 miles, Assessed valuation of the coun- ty is $10,238,621, with an actual value of over $35,000,000, ae- cording to estimates of the local chamber of commerce. The coun- ty tax rate is 48% mills.
