It was unlike any bottle he had seen in Ireland. Examina- tion revealed that there was a paper inside. Mr. Dawson found that it bore a message. The writing was on a sheet of Panama Pacific Line paper, in ink which had been faded by. moisture. Still, it told that the bottle, which had once contained ginger ale, had been thrown from the steamship Manchuria, near the coast of Florida on July 19, 1925, by John, Scott, Jr., of New York. The message was signed by Mr. Scott and several other passengers and requested that the finder send it te the op- erators of the steamship line at 1 Broadway, New York. This Mr. Dawson did. The bottle had been cast overboard in the gulf stream, and had taken 10 months to drift to the coast of Ireland, about 4,000 miles.
