PAGE EIGHT KEY WEST POST OFFICE GETS FIRST RATING POSTAL RECEIPTS REACH RE- QUIRED AMOUNT MAKING CHANGE FROM SECOND CLASS On the first of July the Key| West post office will be given a} well merited promotion. It is now) what the post office department} designates as a second-class office,| but after July 1 it will enjoy aj rating of first-cl according toj official notice received by Post- master Williams. | A first-class post office must} show postal receipts amounting to} $40,000 annually. For the past year the Key West post office has been doing this amount of busi-| ness and has really been entitled | to first-class rating, but the} change could not be made until} the closing date of the depart- | ment’s fiscal year, which is the! last day of June. | During the World War period| the post office here was advanced | to first-class rating, which stan- dard it maintained for only about a year. It was then dropped back to second class. The business of the office since that time shows gradual gains until the normal re- ceipts now entitle it to the rating that is to be given it in July. When this post office becomes Best class, the postal savings and money order windows will open at} 9 and close at 5. At the present} time they open at 8 and close at 6. The stamp and general delivery | windows will not change hours,| but will continue to open at 8 and close at 6. Postmaster Charles S. Williams and his splendid clerical force are worthy of highest compliment for the high standard of efficient ser vice maintained, and the fine showing they have enabled the post office to make indicates that the finances of this community are} gradually increasing and on a sub- stantial basis. SCHOOL NURSES MAKE REPORT SHOWS HEALTH ACTIVITIES IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS Good strong siandard scales have been placed inthe schools since the first of the year. Doctors have found that a boy or girl of a given age that has reached a certain height should have a certain weight, and that there should be a certain gain, of weight from month to month ac ording to the age and height of child. ‘These “standards of weight are the best measurements of health and nutrition that we have. The milk given by the efforts of the Women’s Clyb has greatly aided the underweight children of the public schools. Many of the children have gained in weight. An abundance of supplies, in- cluding gauze, cotton, first aid medication and other necessary things have been generously sup- plied by the school fund. Hundreds of dressings have been taken care of, including accidents and minor skin cases. The recommendation of physi- cal defects made by the doctors of | the State Board of Health have} been followed up as far as pos- sible. ALICE H.
