PAGE EIGHT TOM THUMB AND JENNIE JUNE WEDDING AN Tuesday evening in the spacious) auditorium of the beautiful Mon-} Toe county high school, the elite) , of Key West and. their families} and friends gathered ‘to witness! , the ceremony of Miss Jennie June} and Tom Thumb. \* Jennie June “new women charming, lovely, humanity. She is three summers old; has dark expressive, flashing eyes, and| the most adorable rose bud of a mouth. Tom Thumb is a little master- piece of the Lord’s. of creation, and splendid to Jook upon. The eremony was beautiful. First came two fine looking ushers, John Joss Little of the Naval hospital and John Joseph| Pinder of the Pinder book seller’s| firm.. These two young chaps, who were dolled up in the evening| swallow tailed coats, batton hole| bouquets and e ything right up) te the minute, walked down the main aisle and up on to the plat- form, where they took their places on cither side of the bridal arch. Miss Jane Lewis at ‘the piano, played a lovely selection | while some of the noted guests) from out of tho city came upon the platform and were introduced and seated by the ushers. Mr. and Mrs. Jiggs of funny paper fame and Mr. and Mrs. Hooligan of the comic. pictures, were’ in attendance. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Vanderbilt came all the way from Newport, Rhode Island, in their yacht to attend Jennie June’s wedding, Lord and Lady Astor and Mrs. Coolidge were also there—the president was sorry, but pressing duties kept him at home. \ King George and Queen Mary of England were introduced with grave dignity. Mary Pickford, Betty Bronson, Mrs. Doolittle and Mrs. Moneyback, Mrs, Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch and Mary “Roberts Rhineheart were in this assembly of celebrities. Next In Line Next came the mother of the bride on the arm of one of the ushers, She was stately and hand- some, gowncd in a soft shade of orchid. She wore a beautiful sun- burst pin of rare pearls, and a corsage bouquet of orchids and lilies of the island. Then on the soft stillness came the voice of one of Key West's most promising ‘vocalists, Miss Edith Russell, singing “I Love You Truly.” Her voice was sweet and well trained, Predictions are that Miss Edith will soon make her debut in the Metropolitan Opera Company, which will soon begin iis season in Key West, She has an-adorable personality and won heart in the audience by her charm, Then to the strains of the wed- ding march came the eight hand- some uchers, all in evening frock coats, stiff shirt bosoms, and in- deed with the air of looking real Boviety folks. Then followed slowly the lovely, bewitching bridesmaids dressed in. rainbow fints and carrying flower spray bouquets of pink hearts and bride's, roses. . The little flower girls followed} looking more like fairies than just | wee babies that they were. The swect, precious little bride, | dressed in shimmering white taf- feta, long train and a veil and} orange blossoms, leaning upon the arm of her dignified, handsome, | snappy. looking father, came next,! followed by the little padlock bear- er carrying a white satin pillow} with the golden padlock and key! upon it. { The groom and best man, walk- ed down the side aisle and met the bride and her father under the beautiful white snowy arch. The young good looking minister, brother of the bride, was waiting im his place and spoke the words which bound the two with | the golden padlock. Miss Lewis played softly during the ccremony as the couple knelt to. reveive: the padlock. Make Bow After the ceremony the bridal couple made thejr prettiest bow to the audience and guests; then walked slowly out to the strains of "Lohengrin’s recessional. At th of .t the guests put on tainment which done. Mts. Readings Good The readings were all good, Master Jack Roberts told how he wasn't afraids of cows, and Alice Jenks told about her dollies and ‘its torn dress, Miss Laura May Albury sahg a Vocal solo which brought hearty applause. She has a clear, high voice, a dignified bearing, and makes her audience feel assured of a rare treat the moment she appears upon a plat- form. Little Miss Hanson played a piano selection very nicely and won applause for the effort. Miss Florence Torres played here uke and also impersonated perfectly an old deaf grandmother in the little dialogue. John Joseph Pinder was the matter of fact book salesman, but couldn’t make grandmother hear him, so became disgusted and left without making eyes at grand- mother’s twg pretty nieces. Of course they were quite out of sorts at grandmother and so the story ends, . Mr. Curry, superintendent of the Ley Memorial Sunday School then thanked the friends for their | presence, and hoped they had en joyed the_efforts of the little tiny people of the Ley Memorial Sun- day School, who had so cleverly put on the play Wedding of Jennie | dune and Tom Thumb, j Miss Alce Curry rendered difficult’ piano selection at the close of the program, then every body smiled a boppy goed night, / and a pleasant “thank you” to} those who made it possible for us to display our talent in the High School auditorium.
