“MONDAY, APRIL 19, 1926. URGES REGULAR “ATTENDANCE AT. PUBLIC SCHOOL i. 0. CARRAWAY, PRINCIPAL OF HARRIS SCHOOL, MAKES APPEAL TO PARENTS - OF STUDENTS |. O. Curraway, princ:pal of the is School urges the parents the necessity of having their ehil¥ren attend school regularly and Yromptly. - He appeals to the in the following communi- the Citizen: in this But does each one the stupendous im- regular and prompt 4 as absolute and in- dispensable prerequisites to attain- ing such education? There yet remains only SEVEN weeks of school for this session. thus it is necessary for each child * to attend school every day prompt- ly at 8:30 A. M. during the re- mainder of the session in order to pass off the _second semester’s work creditably and attain promo- tion. “Absence” and “tardiness” intensely handicaps and retards the pupils progress, and in gddition seriously stigmatizes and jeopard- izes the school’s interests. As a rule the pupils who achieve the highest marks in scholarship and deportment are those who main- tain an excellent record of attend- ance also. The three aims of ef- ficiency go together. and are in- separable. Please favor the child and sup- port the-school by insisting that each ch'ld under your guardian- ship comes promptly every day during the remainder of the’ ses- sion in order to strengthen the school’s efficiency and the child’s chanees for promotion. Please bear in mind also that the teachers report daily to the Pr‘ncipal and the Principal reports weekly to the Co. Supt. the exact Percentage of both attendance and punctuality attained by each school. During the past two teacher's class-room and the entire ‘weeks the combination percentage thus attained has been approxi- mately 95 per cent which is con- ered par-excellent; however if parents might exercise just a little more interest and school pride then even this high record might be raised. ‘It seems quite possible that all children might reach school not later than 8:30 A. M, yet there are some few Parents who unfortunately permit the’ children to come tardy y- most daily with some kind of “ex- cuse” but no “reason” for such tardiness. Evidently such unex- cused absences and tardies are grossly unfair to the other child- ren with perfect records and also unfair to the school, becoming li- abilities instead of assets on the schooX records. May \ur number of absent and tardy children grow less each dey. oe BASEBALL YESTERDAY'S RESULTS | American League Chicago 5; Cleveland 1. Detroit 7; St. Louis 3. Washington 3; New York 2. COMPLETE WORK ON NEW WELL WATERWORKS DEPARTMENT | HAS WELL DRILLED AT STREET CORNER The well that was being drilled for the city at the corner of Eat- on and Bahama streets under the supervision of W. E. Huston, sup-| erintendant of waterworks, has been finished. It was sunk to a depth of about sixty feet, but a sufficient flow of water could not’ be reached. Several cave-ins hampered the work of drilling; and may have affected the ulfi- mate volume of water. It has not been decided whether this well | will be dynamited in a further effort to secure the necessary yol-| ume, or filled in and abandoned. This is the first of the wells that have been sunk by the city! that has not “made good.” The last one drilled before this one, at the corner of Fleming and White-| head, was tested by a fire truck pumping 750 gallons per minute without any perceptible falling of the water in the well. But this last well, when. put to the same test: this forenoon, proved a fa‘lure, jf Mr. and Mrs. Newton Manson Are Leaving Tonight For New York | Mr, and Mrs. Newton: Munson of Munson’s Island leave by the, Mallory line this evening for New) York. ing a year’s tour of the western part of the United States. No woman can be attrac- tive or retain her beauty who is suffering from faulty elimina- tion. It Is said that twenty-five million Americans have. the laxative habit, but taking iaxa- tives as a remedy for constipa- tion is seldom advisable. It ts an emergency method which, if constantly repeated, will aggra- vate instead of improving the ecndition. A real cure is a combination of correct diet, regularity, nor your own efforts.
