REPORT FIRE IN OIL FIELDS TWO DERRICKS DESTROYED IN CALIFORNIA (Ry Ansociated Press) LONG BEACH, Calif., March 25.—Fire ear'y today ate its way through the northwest éxtension of Signal Hill oil field, *néar here, totally “destroying two derricks and four oil tanks and enveloping in flames three other rigs. The damage at 4 a. m. was esti- mated at a quarter‘of @ million dollars. The fire started shortly ‘after midnight when gas escaping from the W. M. C. well No. 3, ignited, forming a flaming torch almost’ a in height. The flames spread through four rigs standing in the near vicinity. All available fire fighting apparatus of this city was on the scene.
