Pursuant to adjournment the board ‘of County Commissioners of Itasca coun ty, Minnesota, met at the court house in the village of Grand Rapids, this 10th day of September, 1912, at 10 o’clock a. nm. Members present: Commissioners Shellman, Mullins and Nelson. Chairman King, being absent, chairman Nelson presided. O. L. Sherman came before the board and requested an appropriation of $200 for the improvement of County Road No. 79. Bids for the construction of Coun- ty Road No. 116 were then opened and Vice- ‘All of Township 62, Range 23, and Township 62, Range 24, be and the same are hereby attached to and made a part of the organized town of Carpenter. The motion was seconaed by Commis- sioner O’Brien and carried by unanimous vote. ~ Commissioner Mullins moved that the sum of $500 be appropriated from the County Road and Bridge Fund to be ex- pended under the direction of Com- missioner O’Brien in hauling sand or gravel upon swampy places upon Coun- ty Road No. 89. The motion was second- @d by Commissioner O’Brien and car- ried by unanimous vote. Bids for the construction of Coun- ty Road No. 116 were again taken under consideration. Commissioner Mullins mov ed that tha bid of A. McWilliams and John Lake be accepted, the same be- ing considered the best bid. The motion was seconded by Commissioner O'Brien and upon roll call was carried by the following vote: read, the bids being as follows: A. MeWilliams and John Lake ‘for $2250, $10.00 each for wooden culverts of $5 each for galvanized culverts fur- nished by the county at Nashwauk; 30 cents per cubic yard, for additional soil nd earth, which may be required on ang, portion of the road tn addition to the dirt taken from the ditches. Charles W. Latvala for the sum of $1875. Johnson Verity Co. for the sum of $2425. Logan and Co. for the sum of $2400; for installing culverts furnished by the county $5.00 each; for cuts ‘and fills $25 cents per yard for first 200 foot haul and 4 cents per yard each addition al 100 feet. The said bids were temporarily laid over for further consideration. Commissioner O’Brien arrived at this time. The following read and filed. Chairman of the Board of Supervisors of the town of Wawina in regard to the improvement of a piece of road in said town. Anna Wang , visiting nurse, report for the months of July and August. C. Magnuson in regard to the com- pletion of the Orth road. Hartford Steam Boiler Insurance com- pany regarding the inspection of boil- ers in the jail and courthouse. Percy C. Warner's proposition for the survey of section lines as petitioned for. Attorney General and Forest Rang- ers in regard to. the burning of slash- ing on certain roads. A petition was presented for the con- struction of a certain portion of the Coon Lake road in townships 61, ranges 25 and 26. Commissioners O’Brien, King and Nel- son were appointed by Vice-chairman Nelson as a committee to examine said road. Commissioner O’Brien moved that the Chairman appoint a committee to at- tend the hearing upon the petition of a Judicial road on the lines between St. Louis and Itasca counties, said hearing to be held at Hibbing at 10 o'clock, a. m., on September 14th. 1912. The motion was seconded by Commis- sioner Shellman and carried by unani- mous vote. The Chairman appointed Commissioners Shellman, Mullins and County Auditor M. A. Spang as such committee. Commissioner Mullins moved the adop- tion of the following resolution: Be it resolved that the sum of $300 be and the same is hereby appropriated from the County Road and Bridge Fund to the town of Trout Lake to aid said tow in the improvement of roads therein. H The motion was seconded by Com- missioner O’Brien and carried by unani- mous vote. An adjournment was then taken to 1:30 o'clock, p. m. Pursuant to adjournment the board again met at 1:30 o'clock, p. m. Members present: Commissioners Nel- son, Mullins, Shellman and O’Brien. A petition was presented for the es- tablishment of a highway beginning at the S E corner of the N E 1-4 of the N E 1-4, Section 35, Township 55, Range 24, and running South one-half mile. ‘Commissioner Mullins moved that) a hearing ‘be had upon said petition at the Court House in the Village of Grand Rapids on Thursday, the 24th day of October, 1912, at 10 o'clock a. m.; that Commissioners Nelson, Shellman and Mullins be a committee to examine the route of said road; that said commit- tee meet at the point of beginning of said route onTuesdaythe22nd day of Oc- tober, 1912, at 11 o'clock a. m., for the purpose of examining said route and that said committee make report to this Board at the time set for hearing up- on said petition. Further that the County surveyor be instructed to make a survay of the route of the said road. ‘The motion was seconded by Commissica er Shellman and carried by unanimous vote. Commissioner Mullins moved the adoption of the following resolution: Resolved that the sum of $200 be and/| the same is hereby appropriated from ‘the County Road and Bridge Fund to the town of Sago, to aid said town in the repairs and construction of Roads and Bridges therein. The motion .was seconded by Commissioner O’Brien and carried by unanimous vote. The matter of the hearing of the pe- tition to attach unorganized township 62, Range 23, and Township 62, Range 24, to the town of Carpenter, was then taken up. .Commissioner Shellman . moved that the following order be adopted: cammunications were “Order Attaching Territory to Organ- ized Town. ‘Whereas, a petition signed by more than twenty legal voters residing with- 4n the territory to be affected was presented to the Board of County Com- Yea—Commissioners O’Brien, Mullins and Shellman. Nay—Commissioner Nelson. A communication was» received from the Great Northern Railway Company stating that the cost of installing a crossing upon County Road No. 50, near Blackberry, including the necessary grading for said crossing would be $102. Commissioner Mullins moved that the County Auditor be authorized and in- ptructed to issue a Warrant upon the County Road and Bridge Fund in fav- or of the Great Northern Railway Co. for the sum of $102, in payment of the cost of said crossing. The motion was seconded by Commissioner O’Brien and arried by unanimous vote. Commissioner Mullins moved the adoption of the following resolution: Resolved, thatthe sum of $500 be and the same is hereby appropriated from the County Revenue Fund to the Itasca County Agricultural Association, and that the County Auditor be authorized and instructed to issue his Warrant in favor of the secretary of said’ Associatic for the amount of such appropriation. The motion was.seconded by Commission- er O’Brien and carried by unanimous yote. Commissioner O’Brien moved that the Chairman appoint a committee consist- ing of one commissioner and the Coun- ty Auditor to let thejob of painting: the stock sheds, etc., at the Itasca County Fair grounds. The motion was second- ed by Commissioner Shellman and car- ried by unanimous vote. The Chairman appointed Commissioner Mullins ard County Auditor M. A. Spang as such committee. The Board was advised that the State Highway Commission had estimated that the total cost of constructing and completing that part of the Duluth and St. Vincent State Rural highway, run- ning through the county of Itasca, would be 1908.59 per mile. Commissioner Mul- lins moved that said report be accept- ed and approved by theCounty Board of Itasca county. The motion was seconded by Commissioner O’Brien and carried by un&nimous vote. Commissioner O’Brien moved that the Assistant State engineer be instructed to make a survey for an extension of County Road Np, 89 on the line between Townships 55 and 26,Range 27, running West to Range Line at the NW corner of Township 5, Range 27. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Mullins and carried by unanimous vote. The County Auditor was instructed to advertise for bids for that part of the Smoky Hollow Road running across the NW 1-4SE 1-4 of Section 22, Township 5, Range 26. Said Road to be improved according to specifications to be prepared by Assistant State engineer and filed in the office of the County Auditor. It being the time set for the hear- ing upon the application of Frank Payne for. a license to sell intoxicating liquors at Ball Club the same was then taken under consideratioh. There being no ob- jections filed or offered against the granting of said applicant, Commissioner O'Brien moved that the said application be granted amd a license issued to said Frank Payne. OFFICIAL PROCEEDINGS OF THE School Board OF School District No. 1, Grand Rap- ids, Itasca County, Minnesota. Grand Rapids, Minn., Sept. 16, 1912. A meeting of the school board of School District No. One was held in the board’s office at eight o’clock p. m. All the members of the board were present. The minutes of the meting of Sep- tember 9, were read and approved. It was moved that notices be posted calling for bids for transporting the J. H. Carlson, Peter Olson, C. Erick- son, Claude Day children to the McKin- ley school, said bids to be opened at the meeting of Sept. 23. The motion was carried. R. W. Engstrom was employed, up- on motion, to transport the children of the above mentioned families, until the bids for their transportation were received. Bids for transporting children from the Lung, Miller, McKinley neighbor- hood to the Anderson school were re- ceived as follows: Neil McKinley, $75, John Anderson $75. It was moved that the bid of Neil McKinley be accepted. Motion carried. Bids for transporting children to the Bigfork school, beginning at Gust Gust- ofson’s amd picking up school children along the main road, were received as follows: Harry Larson $73.00, Ed. A. That said Irvin Randall did not pay the installments of said purchase price provided in said contract to have been made on September 20, 1911, and on Oc- tober 20th, 1911, of Ten Dollars and Fiv Dollars respectively, together with the interest due on said dates respectively chase price, and did not pay the taxes levied and assessed against said land for the year 1911, amounting to the sum of $9.82, nor did said Randall pay to the State of Minnesota the interest due to it on June Ist, 1911, or the in- terest due to it on June Ist, 1912, each of which payments of inter- est amounted to the sum of $6.80, un- der said Swamp Land Contract Number 479, but in each and all of the above respects defaulted in and failed to ob- serve or perform the terms andnprovi- sions of his said contract with the said August Wisuri.
