Perkins asking that Charler WD. Hilles, chairman of the Republic an national committee be called be fore the senate committee investigating ampaign expenditures to “testify ful- ty as to his charge that Colonel Roose- ‘velt had spent millions of dollars ot Barvester trust money.” | Senator Clapp stated that Mr. Hilles undoubtedly would be called before the committee, but would be ques- tioned not alone upon that reported @tatement, but upon the general sub- ect of campaign contributions. A plan for the opening of next ‘week’s hearings was. outlined by Sen- ator Clapp, for presentation to the full committee when it meets. The first ‘witness will probably be Cornelius N. Bliss, Jr., and the second C. C. Tegeth- off, private secretary to the late Ed- ward H. Harriman. These two men will be called upon to produce any papers belonging to the estates re- spectively of Cornelius N. Bliss and Mr. Harriman that might throw light on the charges made by John D. Grosscup of the United States circuit court, who retired from the bench last fall in order that he might take a more active part in public af- fairs, has issued a statement in which hhe announced that he had cast his fortunes with the Progressive party. Mr. Grosscup described the Roose- elt attitude toward big business as “enlightened individualism brought up to date—the acceptance of business, even big business, by the nation as a mational asset, to be given freedom through the medium of intelligent su- pervision.” Chao Ping Chun New Premier. ‘Washington, Sept. 25.—Minister Cal- 4boun reported to the state department the confirmation of Chao Ping Chun gs premier of China.
