A regular meeting of the Village Coun cil of the Village of Grand Rapids, Itas- ca County, Minnesota, was held this 8th day of April, 1912, at 8 o'clock P. M. Members present: President Riddell, Trustees Arscott, Russell and King and Recorder Sherman. | The minutes of the last two meetings were read and approved. Monthly reports of Justice.of.the.Peace Bailey was read, approved and ordered filed. Reports from F. F. Price as Village Attorney, in regard to certain applica- tions for reduction and cancellation of assessments was read. Motion made by King seconded by Arscott that application of Mrs. W. A. Wright for reduction of personal prop- erty assessments be granted in regards to item No. One of said application, and applications be rejected in regards to item No. Two, the same being in com- pliance with attorneys opinion, motion carried. Motion made by Arscott seconded by King, that application fer cancellation of personal assessment from The Allen Company, be granted acccrding to At- torneys opinion. Motion carried. Motion made by Arscott seconded by Russell that application for reduction of real estate assessment from Mrs. J. Sinnett be rejected according to At- torneys opinion. Motion carried. Application was received from Mrs. M. Manness, stating that a special assess- ment having been certified to the Coun- ty Auditor for collection in 1912, upon certain lots owned by said applicant in the sum of $33.15, applicant requests the Village Council to have the same cancelled and certified to the Auditor in three separate annual installments. Motion made by King seconded by Ars- cott that application of Mrs. Manness be granted. Motion carried Monthly report of Treasurer McMahon was read, approved and ordered filed The bond of the Village Recorder was presented. Same was approved and or- dered filed. A communication was read from Mej- lis, Pirie, & Scott, chartered accoun- tants, in regards to auditing the Village books. Same was placed on file. The Recerder was instructed to cor- respond with the Baker Manufacturing Co., in regards to prices on hand! street sweepers. The following bills were audited and allowed: E. C. Kiley, and notices . The committee on Streets and Alleys was instructed to have matter in re- gards to lots purchased for the cream- ery completed, and to pay any taxes ‘there may be assessed upon said lots, and to have deed placed on record. on record. Members of the Water and Light Commission were present and stated that a committe was about to visit towns within a radius of 50 or 75 miles where water meters were in to enable them to secure correct dat in regards to the installing and operat- ing of the water meter system. How- ever, the commission was desirous of securing the opinion of the Council in regards to obtaining such information. The members of the Council were un- animous in approving of the above in- | quiry. Motion made by Arscott seconded by Russell, that application of Wm, De front of his residence be referred to the Water and Light Commission with the approval of the Council. Motion carried. Motion made by Arscott seconded by King that C. H. Dickenson be appointed a member of the Water, Light, Power and Building Commission for a term of three years. Motion carried by unani- mous vote. Motion made by Arscott seconded by Russell that Dr. G. F. Schmidt be ap- pointed Health Officer for the ensuing year, and together with Thos. Benton and G. ©. Notice is hereby given that on May 20, 1912, at 10 o’clock a. m. in the office of the County Auditor, at Grand Rap- ids, Itasca county, in the State of Min- nesota, I will offer for sale certain ¥ sold state lands, and also those state lands which have reverted to the State by reason of the non-payment of inter- est. Terms: Fifteen per cent of the pur- chase price and interest on the unpaid balance from date of sale to June Ist, 1913, must be paid, at the time of sale. The balance of purchase money is pay- able in whole or in part on or before forty years from date of sale; the rate of interest on the unpaid balance is four per cent per annum, payable in ad- vance on June Ist, of each year, pro- vided the principal remains unpaid for ten years; but if the principal is paid within ten years from date of sale the rate of interest will be computed at five per cent per annum. Appraised value of timber, if any, must also be paid at time of sale.
