To the Board of County Com- missioners of Itasca County. Honorable Sirs: We, the undersigned, Supervisors of the Town of Popple, County of Itasca and State of Minneso- ta, respectfully represent that the said town of Popple have resolyed to con- struct a bridge of steel and combina- tion thereof across the Bow String riv- er on the legally established highway known as Cooper Road in said township, which said location is not within the cor- porate limits of any city of the first, second or third class. We further represent that the said township of Popple has provided for the payment of one-half of the cost of the construction of said bridge, the } total estimated cost of which will be eighteen hundred ($1,800) dollars which amount far exceeds one-eighth of one per centum of all taxable property in said township according to its last equalized valuation. In consideration of the facts as above I set forth and pursuant to the provi- sions of Chapter 423, Laws of 1907, we | respectfully ask that the Board of County Commissioners of said County | of Itasca shall appropriate the other one half of the cost of the construction of said bridge, and that said county board shal! forthwith, as provided by — said Chapter 423, Laws of 1907, designate two of its members as a committee to cooperate with the supervisors of said * Township of Popple in the letting of a’ contract for the construction of said bridge. Meetings Held Between October 9th and December 11th, i911. Regular Meeting. The village council met at a regular meeting on Monday the 9th day of Octo- ber, 1911, at the hour of 8 o'clock, p. m. Present: Presiden Bawden, Trusttees Ekman, Fitzgerald and Clerk Gravel. The minutes of last meeting were read and approved. Moved by Trustee Ekman, seconded by Trustee Fitzgerald that we dispense with the regular order of meeting and take up special business with the at- torney that he may be allowed to leave as soon as possible. Attorney McOuat returned the bond of A. E. Perrier with the American Bonjling Co. with his 0. Roll call: Ayes—Ekman, Fitzgerald, Bawden, Gravel. Nays: None. Moved by Trustee Ekman, seconded by Trustee Fitzgerald, that the clerk be instructed to notify the ‘night police- man E. E. Perry, that dating from Nov. 1st his services would no ionger be re- quired. The motion carried. The clerk was instructed to notify the village marshall to be on duty from 31 jin connection with these resolutions. Pp. m: to 3 a. m. after the first of Nov. The clerk was instructed to write the town board that there was a verbal agreement between the town board and the Village President, when the village was incorporated that the town board would take care of the roads: outside the platted portion of the vil- lage. This agreement has not been lived up to of late and consequently the road leading to the D. M. and N. de- pot is in bad condition, If it is the intention of the Town Board not to repair this piece of road, the council would be pleased to be advised of said intentions so that it may be governed accordingly. Special. Meeting. Marble met at a special meeting on Fri- day the 13th day of Oct. A. D. 1911, at the hour of 8 o’clock p. m. to discuss the bond issue and to look the matter of getting a set of books for the water and light department to be kept by the village clerk. Present: All members of the coun- cil. Moved by Trustee Fitzgerald, second- ed by Trustee Ekman, that “we dis- pense with the reading of the minutes. Carried. . The clerk then read a communication from Fritz & Cross of St. Cloud, re- garding set of books, also displayed samples from said firm for the approv- al of the council, urging the council to procure a set of books as soon as prac- ticable. After considering the samples President Bawden suggested that the clerk should go to Nashwauk or to Gilbert and find out what kind of books are in use at those places. Gil- bert especially having the same condi- tions as to water and light as we have here. The proposition of President Baw- den seemed favorable to the council but no action was taken authorizing the clerk to go. The bond issue was then discussed and on motion of Trustee Fitzgerald, seconded by Trustee Ekman, the bill of the Commercial Investment Co. of Du- luth, fiseal agents for the disposal of the bonds and the clerk be authorized to draw village voucher covering the amount of $5,600 and the treasurer to pay same as soon as the money cover- ink the amount of the bonds be depos- ited at the’ bank, Roll call—Ayes: Fitzgerald, Ekman, Gravel and Bawden. Nays—None. The question of books for the water and light department was then brought up again by the clerk, same was again discussed for some time but no action taken. The meeting then adjourned. W. BAWDEN, Ordinance number 10, the sidewalk pe- tition and resolution prepared by the Attorney were laid on the table indef- initely, owing to the inactivity of the mining industry in Marble at the pres- ent time, and the slow prospects for the winter season. General Assistant Supt. L. R. Salsich of the O, I. M. Co. submitted a plat of the first addition to the village of Mar- ble for the approval of the council. Moved by Trustee Ekman, seconded by Trustee Fitggerald, that the plat of the firs addition to Marble be approved and that the clerk be authorized to cer- tify the approval of same on the or- iginal plat. D. 1911, at the hour of 4 p. m. to consider the lease from the different mining companies upon whose lands it was necessary to obtain right of way in the construction of the water and sewer system. Present: All members of the council. On motion of Trustee Fitzgerald the minutes of last meeting were dispensed with. The following resolution was then of- fered by Trustee Fitzgreald, who moved its adoption. Resolution: At a meeting of the village council of the, village of Marble, duly held at town nail in said village of Marble, on the 24th day of October A. D. 1911 at which a quorum was present, Trustee Fitzgerald. offered and Trustee Ekman seconded the. following resolution, Whereas the village of Marble desires jmain or pipe, whereby the O. L M. Co. is conveying water from a shaft in the (NE 1-4 of the SE 1-4) of said section and thereby to receive water from said shaft in such amounts and at such times as the O. I. M. Co. may be will- ing and able to supply without causing any hinderance or inconvenience or Whereas The Deleware Iron company the remaining part, and the O. I. M. Co. are willing as respects their interests in said premises, to grant unto the village the right to lay such water sup- ply mains and to connect the same with said supply main of the Oliver company, all in accordance with and in subject to the terms and conditions of three certain agreements, to be exe- cuted by the Oliver Company, The Deleware Co. and Lorain Iron Mining Co., respectively, by the Village Coun- cil, copies whereof are attached to these resolutions and hereby made a part of. Now therefore, be it resolved that the j Village of Marble enter into said three agreements and that the officers of said village be and they hereby are author- ized and directed to execute said three jagreements in the name of the village and to deliver the same to the respect- ive parties therto, That said three agreements shall each and all become binding contracts to the extent and for the purposes therein set forth and be it further resolved, that copies of said three agreements be spread upon the records of the village as a part of and Which resolutions being put to a vote all the members of said village council present voted thereon affirmatively, whereupon the same was declared un- ‘animously adopted. Clerk Gravel then requested the vil- lage council to consider his resignation to take effect on the Ist day of De- cember, he having decided to leave town for the winter. It was moved by Trustee Fitzgerald, seconded by President Bawden, that the resignation of Clerk Grave! be a cepted to take effect December 1. The motion carried. After discussing the appointment of a successcr, to the present incumbent, it was moved by Trustee Fitzgerald, sec onded by Clerk Gravel, that Mr. Staf- ford Curran be appointed as village {clerk to succeed J. E. Gravel, resigned. The motion carried. It was moved by Trustee Fitzgerald, seconded by Clerk Gravel, that the village books be audited before the resignation of the present clerk take effect, and that Mr. John E. Dennis, of Taconite, be appointed as auditor. The motion carried. The clerk then requested the council to establish a rate for the electric cur- rent usea by the town hall, basing the jfigures from the meter reading for the months of June, July, August, Sep- tember and October. McKusick that owing to the large expenditure of constructing the electric line to his house, the vil- lage council could not furnish him with power for lighting at the present time, and that the deposit would be refunded, immediately, with a village voucher; al- so that his water rate would be adjusted on his next statement. at the end of the month. Moved by Trustee Fitzgerald, second- ed by President Bawden, that the bonds of Chas. J. Sullivan, as justice of the Peace, be set at $500. The motion carried. Mr. Chas. J. Sullivan was then given the oath of office as trustee of the village of Marble, and also as justice of the peace, by the village clerk The application of Frank J, Campa for a position on the police force was then presented by the clerk, who was instructed to write Mr. Campa that no vacancy existed in the police department at the present time.
