This will be the last souvenir matinee at which season tickets are given away. POPULAR YOUNG COUPLE MARRIED John Edward McMahon and Edith Lou Aiken Married at Minne- apolis Tuesday October 12. Cards were received in the village Friday announcing the marriage of John McMahon to Edith Lou Aiken, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. !Aiken, Tuesday, October 12, at the home of the latter’s grand-mother, Mrs. C. W. Hastings, at Minneapolis. The newly wedded couple are count- ed among Grand Rapid’s most pop- ular young people. Both lived here practically from childhood and have a host of friends whom anyone would be proud to own. Mr. McMahon is deputy county auditor, a position he has held for over two years. He is sober and industrious and is by long odds one of the most highly respect- ed and popular young men in the county. Miss Aiken has assisted her j father in the First National bank | for the past five years. By her win-} jning ways and womanly accomplish- |ments she has made many friends and enjoys the love and esteem of all who have her acquaintance. The, | Herald-Review hastens to join their | many friends in extending felicita- ; + i COMMISSIONERS HEAR PETITIONS Will Hold Hearing on New Roads —Petitions For Abatement of Taxes Granted. A meeting of the board of county commissioners was held at the court house and bids were received for the construction of County road No. 12, in townships 55 and 56, range 26. Only one bid was received. Th amount of the bid was $940. It wa: rejected, the board thinking the bid; too’ high. A number of requests for the re- turn of liquor license money granted. This was where villages were incorporated and only part of the license used which was issued by the county. Petitions were received for the es-; tablishing of roads on the range line between Grand Rapids and Bass Brook townships; in township 150, ranges 26 and 27; between Cutfoot- Sioux and Whitefish lakes and also for two roads in township 55, range 27, and hearings were ordered. The temporary personal bond of Glenn Strader was accepted until his bond is returned by the National Surety company, which will only be a matter of a few days. H. R. Stark was hired to assist the county attorney during the approach- ing term of court, it being conclus- ively shown there was more work than can be attended to by one man. His compensation was fixed at $5 per day and he will assist in the court room and also with the grand jury and petit jury. License was granted to Gust Johnson and James Wolfrom to dispense liquor at the townsite of Snowball. A loan of $1,500 was made to Grace K. Fraser on a first mortg- age security. A number of applica- tions were received for the abatemert of taxes and were granted and the usual grist of bills allowed. The piece of work at Horse Shoe lake, where the township road ends, was ordered continued south one and one-half miles, and a contract let to Al Garling, and the auditor was in- structed to advertise for bids for the construction of a curderoy road be- tween Deer River and Ballclub. Township 54-25, adjoining the town- ship of Grand Rapids was organized and named Harris township, in honor of Duncan Harris, the oldest bona fide resident of the township, and who still resides there. The board adjourned to Friday, October 22, when County Treasurer Strader’s bond with the National Surety com- pany will be acted on.
