If the ladies will bring baskets the farm will furnish lemonade and coffee and a picnic dinner will be served. Farmers living in town and farmers’ friends are also invited. As there will be a celebration in Grand Rapids | it is requested that the visit at the farm begin at 11 o’clock so that dinner may be served at 12 and a little program from 1 to 2:30 when adjournment will take place for the celebration in town. E. Pardell, alias D. W. Watson, and of several other names, was released from the Bel- trami county jail last Thursday after- poon and was immediately re-arrest- ed bv Deputy. Sheriff Harry who brought him to Grand Rapids. Marti, under the name of Pardell, bad just completed the serving of 60 days for jumping a board-bill in Be- midji and was wanted in Grand Rapids on the same charge. Deputy Sheriff Harry had warrants for his arrest, both under the name of Wat- son and of Marti. Marti is wanted also at International Falls and at the Hotel Lenox in Duluth on the same charge. It will probably be a long time before Marti gains his freedom again. Marti is the man who was around here abont two months ago with a fake time-table scheme, where- by a business man could have his ad- vertisement printed un a new time table by paying a few dollars. Played a Double Header. Baseball honors were evenly divided last Sunday between the Grand Rapids and Cloquet teams, each winning a game. Both were very close and in- teresting. The first game lasted 10 innings, and was won by thee local team by a score of 4to 3. Thesecond game was only a seven inning affair, and was won by the visitors by ascore of 4 to 3. The score by innings: First game: Grand Rapids 0000002101-4 Cloquet .... 000000003 0-3 Second game: Grand Rapids --1000200-3 Cloquet By The batteries for the Grand Rapids in the firist game were Pelotand Vin- ner, and in the second game Stafford and McKobige. Grand Rapids Firemen Winners. ‘The firemen from Grand Rapids at the Park Rapids tournament were pretty much the whole thing and captured seven first prizes out of a total of ten and otherwise dis- tinguished themselves as hustlers. In the “wet test” thev came within three seconds of tieing the champion- ship record time ever made and it was a justly proud bunch of boys who re- turned home last Saturday. Their record stands first in best appearing company, laader climbing contest, hub and hub race, novelty hose race, coupling contest, combination hook and ladder and hose race, wet test, and third prize in the 100 yard foot race, Tax Apportionment. NO GOVERNOR CANDIDATE ENDORSED Republicans Meet in Convention at City Hall and Elect Dele- gates. Peace and Har- mony Prevails. The Republican county convention convened last Thursday afternoon at the city hall with a large number of out of town delegates present. B.C. Finnegan was elected chairman, and ‘W.C. Yancey secretary. The chair- man appointed T. T. Riley, Nash- wauk, W. J. Stock, Coleraine, and H. R. King, Grand Rapids, a committee on credentials and E. J. Luther, H. S..Huson, Grand Rapids and E. H. Bither, Bovey, a committee on res- olutions. The committee reported the’ following delegates entitled to seats: Grand Rapids No. 1.—James Doran, Keo Lerue, E. J. McGowan, H. S. Huson, L. R. Root, Geo. Booth, E. A. Kremer, W. C. Yancey, E. J. Luther, William Dibbert. Grand Rapids No. 2.—John A. Brown, P. C. Warner, F. E. Reusswig, H. R. King. Bass Brook—George Becker, John Skelly, W. W. Stork The convention endorsed the ad- ministration of President Rosevelt, the Republican platform adopted at Chicago and the nomination of Wil- liam C. Taft and James S. Sherman. It also passed a complimentary res- olution favoring Heffelfinger for governer. The following list of delegates were chosen to represent Itasca county in the state convention at St. Paul to- day, and instructed them to vote as a unit: L. R. Harlacher, W. J. Stock, J. C. Greenway, M. Prettner, Archie McWii- liams, L: R. Root, H. R. King, D. M. Gunn, P.C. Warner, W. C. Yancey, James Doran, M. J. Taylor, E. F. Reemer. Thirteen alternates were also named. The delegation is entirely unin- structed but from the general tone of the convention it was evident that Jacobson men were largely in the majority. Two new shooters were out last Thursday but did not enter for the trophy. The Court House gang will hold their annual picnic at Pokegama lake Thursday, July 18th. Every depart- ment will be closed, including the court, Under severest penalty for fail- ure, and the officials, including the employees, wives, mothers, sweet- hearts, children and mothers-in-law, will go to Pokegama lake early in the morning and enjoy an old fashioned all day picnic.
