PROCE TOWN BOARD. :! Township of Grand Rapids, Minn E RY Office of Town Clerk. Town of Grand Rapids, March 10th, 1908. PROCEEDINGS OF THE ANNUAL TOWN MEETING. The annual town meeting held in the town of Grand Rapids, in the connty of Itasca, and state of Minnesota, at the town hall, 9 o’clock a, m.,on the 10th day of March, 1908, was celled to order by Jos. H. McMahon, town clerk. Upon motion made and carried, Joseph H. McMahon was chosen to act as moderator of the meeting. At the opening of the meeting, the moder- ator named the business to be transacted and in the order as follows: To elect one supervisor for the term of three years, and one town clerk, one treasur- er, One assessor, one justice of the peace and one constable, each tor the term of one year. The election of above pamed officers to be determined by ballot. and the polls to open at 9a. m, and to close at 5 p. m. Also to determine the amount of money to be raised by taxation upon the taxable prop- erty in the township for the y 908, to used for the following purposes 1 For general revenue purposes. 2 For road and bridge aad seg 3 For interest on outstanding bonds, etc. The fixing the rate of land tax to be assessed is poo the acreage property of the town for the year 1908. Determining the compensation of the town officers elected at this meeting for the ensu- ing year. Taking action on reports of town treasurer and town clerk. Designating public places in township for the posting of legal notices, ete. Designating place for next annual town meeting and place of next general election. At this time proclamation was made by the, moderator and the, polls declared open. The following resolutions were ofiered by flugh McEwan and being seconded by Hashey were adopted: Whereas, it is estimated that the current expenses of the town of Grand Rapids for the ensuing year will be as follows: General revenue purposes. Road and bridge purposes 2,500.00 Interest on bonds.... 900.00 Therefore, be it resolyed, that the sum of five hundred dollars be and the same is here- by ordered to be assessed against the taxable property in the township of Grand Rapids for the year 1908, as provided by law. The same to be used for general revenue purposes. Be it resolved, that the sum of twenty-five hundred dollars be levied against the taxable property in the township of Grand Rapids for the year 1908, for a fund to provide for the re- pair and construction of roads and bridges in said town as provided by law. Be it resolved, that the sum of nine hundred dollars be levied against the taxable property ip the township of Grand Rapids for the year 1908, to provide for the interest on bonds of said town. Be it resolved, that a leyy of eight mills on the dollar be assessed against all acreage property in the town of Grand Rapids for the year 198. Hugh McEwan also offered the following resolution: same being duly seconded, was adopted: Be it resolved, that the compensation of all town officers be fixed as allowed by law plus fifty per cent. The report of auditing clerk’s and and treasurer’s reports were read at this time. Upon motion duly made and carried same was ordered filed. The following places were chosen as public posts for the posting of legal notices, etc., for the township: 1 The front of J, S. Gole’s real estate office: 2 Tbe front of the township hall. The front door of the stofii¢e in the village of La Prairie. The first two named places being in the village of Grand Rapids. Upon motion duly made and carried, the electors designated the township hall as the place to hold the next annual meeting and next generalelection. Said hall being located in the village of Grand Rapids. The moderator promptly at five o’clock de- clared the polls closed, proclamation haviug first been given at five minutes to five aud at closing hour. Following is given the result of canvass of votes cast ion of officers at the an- nual town met ig in the town of Grand Riup- ids, county of Itasca, and state of Minnesota, this 10th day of March, 1908, as publicly can vassed by the judges of said election: Hugh McEwan received 212 votes for super- visor, term of three years; John G Fraser re- ceived 146 votes for supervisor, term of three years. Hugh McEwan was declared eiected super- visor for term of three years to fill the place of himself whose term expired. Joseph H. MeMahon_received 357 votes for town clerk. Joseph H. McMahon was de- clared elected town clerk. James Connell received 358 votes for town treasurer. .James Connell was declared elect- ed town treasurer. JS Gole received 218 votes for assessor; R W Heiderman received 139 votes for assessor. JS Gole was declared elected assessor. RH Bailey received 357 votes for justice of the peace; H S Huson received 1 vote for jus- tice of the peace. : R H Bailey was declared elected justice of the peace. Jesse Harry received 358 votes for consta- able. Jesse Harry was declared elected con- stable. The foregoing statement was publicly read by the clerk of the election. OFFICIAL PROCEEDINGS —OF THE— BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS Grand Rapids, Minn., March 14, 1908, Pursuant to adjournment the board of county commissiouers of Itasca county, Min- nesota, met at the court house, in the village * of Grand Rapids, this lth day of March, 1908. All members of the board present. H.R. Spencer, attorney for LaRue Mining | 24, Company, presented an application for cor- rection of assessment from the LaRue mine at Nashwauk. On motion of Commissioner O’Brien, seconded by Commissioner Tone, the application was allowed at an assessed valua- tion of $311,110.00. The Wis. Steel Company made ppplication for correction of assessment upon the Hawk- ins mine at Nashwauk. Upon motion of Com- missioner King, seconded by Commissioner O'Brien, said application was allowed at a valuation of $980,000.00, The board then adjourned to one p. m. Pursuant to adjournment the board again met atone p. m. All members present. The matter of re-districting the county into commissioner districts was then taken up. Jommissioner O’Brien moved that each del- egate that desired to present his views to the board be granted a hearing of five minutes. The chairman and_ vice-chairman _ both being absent, Commissioner King moved that Commissioner Tone act as chairman for the remainder of the meeting. Norton be placed in the St. Benedicts hospital at the expense of the count The following petition was presented: To the board of county commissioners of Itasca ccunty: Honorable Sirs: We, the undersigned supervisors of the town of Arbo, county of Itasca #nd State.of Minnesota, respectfully represe:t that the said town of Arbo has resolved to construct a bridge of steel, stone. and concrete across the Prairie river on the legally established highway between Grand Rapids and Bovey, in said township. which said location is not within the corporate | limits o. .ny city of the first, second or third class. We further represent that the said towaship of Arb. uas provided for the payment of one- half of the cost of the coustruction of said bridge. the total estimated cost of which will be $2500.00, which amount far exceeds one- eighth of one percentum of all the taxable pro- perty inaaid township according to’ its act equilized valuation. In consideration of the facts as above set forth and pursuant to the provisions of chapter 423, laws of 1907, we respectfully ask that the board of county commissioners of said county of Itasca shall appropriate the other one-half of the cost of the construction of said bridge and that said county board shall forthwith, as provided by said chapter laws of 1907, designate two of its members as a committee tu co-operate with the ae visiors of said township of Arbo in the let- ting of a contract for the construction of said bridge. A petition signed by twenty-eight residents of the town of Carpenter requesting the board to have the town of Carpenter surveyed was presented to the board. Upon motion duly made and carried said petition was laid over sent the next meeting for further considera- ion. The petition requesting the board to annex township 56, range 26, to the town of Arbo was laid over Until the next meeting for fur- ther consideration. Commissioner Passard moved that the chairman of the board appoint a committee to look into the matter cf the construction of a bridge across Splithand brook and the re- pair of the road leading to said bridge. The motion was seconded by Commissioner King and carried by a unanimous vote. Chairman Mullins then appointed Commissioner King, O’Brien and Mullins as such committee. It_being the time set for hearing upon the petition for the establishment of the Feeley « Blackberry road the committee filed the following report: “To the board of county commissioners of the county of Itascu, Minnesota: The undersigned committee appointed by ou to examine the proposed location. of a ighway as stated in the petition referred to in your order of appointment made on the 8th day of Feb..1908, would respectfully report that we met at the time and piace designated in your said order. and proceeded to examine the highway proposed to be established, viz: .
