The committee appointed o examine the proposed locations of said roads filled their reports in which they recommended thatthe prayer of Lhe petitioners of each of said peti- tions be granted. The reports of the committee were then considered and an opportunity given for the hearing of any protests that might be offered or damages claimed by any person by reasou of the establishment of said roaas. There being no protests of- fered or damages claimed by any per- son by reason of the layiug out of said roads, Commissioner Passard moved that the prayer of the petitioners of each of said petitions be granted, and and that said higkways be hereby ! ordered established according to the cummittee’s reports. The motion was seconded hy Commissioner Mullins, and carried by a unanimous yote. On motion of Commissioner Mullins, seconded by Commissioner Passard, T. On motion of Commissioner Mul- lins, seconded by Commissioner Passard, James Bickley was awarded acontract to build a portion of the Pokegama road beginning at the quarter post between sections 8 and 9, township 54, range 25, and running south on section line oue-quarter mile, for tue sum of $200.00, said road to be cleared 4 rods. wide, all necessary cuts and fil& to be con- structed, the grade to be 16 ft. on top. F. P. Sheldon came before the board and made a proposition to settle the claim of Itasca ecounty against the Lumbermen’s bank and aod First National bank of Grand Rapids for back interest upon county funds deposited ir said bauks for the sum of $682.45. Commissioner Mul- lins moved that the proposition of F. P. Sheldon to settle said claim for the amount above stated be accepted. The motion was secow.ded by Commis- sioner Passard and carried by a unanimous vote. Mrs. Alexander Phair was present and objected tothe action of the board opening and con- structing a portion of the Carter road as surveyed across lot 1, section 3, township range 26, and claitaing | damages if said road was constructed according to the survey. After some discussion of the matter it was de- cided that a commission be appointed to appraise the damages sustuiuted by Mrs. Phair by reasou of the opens ing of said road, one of the commis- sioners on appraisal to be appointed by the chairman of the county board, one by Mrs. Phair, which two com- missioners should appoint a third commissioner. Commissioner Passard moved that the sum of $200.00 heretofore appro- priated for the construction of a bridge across Clearwater Brook on the Prairie River road be expended un- | der the direction of C. V. Smith in the improvement of the Prairie River troud in the town of Balsam. The motion was seconded by Commissioner ! Mullins aud carried by a unanimous vote. An adjournment was then taken to Monday the 21st day of October, 1907, at 10 a.m. ° Pursuant to adjournment the board again met this 2lst day of October, 1907. Members present: Commissioners O’Brien, Passard and Mullins. Commissioner Mullins moved that | the sum of $50.00 be appropriated to be expended under the direction of Jobo Arbo on the Shoal lake road. The motion was seconded by Com- missioner Passard and carried bya unanimous vote | Commissioner Passard moved that !S. P. Hegdah! be given a contract to build three-quarters of a mile of road, beginning at the ne corner of the set, of se} of section 5, township Ba, raage 25, running south three-quarters of a mile, for the sum of $200.00. The motion was seconded by Commis- sioner Mullins and carried by a } una nimous vote. On motion of Commissioner | Mullins, seconded by Commissioner Passard, Davee Maturen was awarded } the contract for clearing and grub- bing the Maturen road for the sum or $300.00. A petition was presented for the | establishment of a highway begin- ning at the quarter post on the sec- tion line between sections 28 and 29, township 54, range 23, aud running thence on said quarter line one wile west to the quarter poston section line between sections 29 and 30, in said township, thence uorth to the section corner between section 19 and 30 and 20 and 29, in said town. thence west along the section line to a point one-guarter mile east of the west line of said township, thence purth one- quarter mile, {ter mile tothe west line of township, thence north along the town line between said township and | ip 54, range 24. to the correr ons 18 and 19, township, 54, range 23, and 13 and 24, 54-24. Commissioner Passard moved the adoption of the following resolution: Whereas,a petition for the establish- ment of a highway as above described has been duly presented to this board reasonable and the same appears upon its face, Now, therefore, be it reasolved, that a hearing be had upon said peti- tion at the court house in Grand Rapids on Saturday, the 7th day of December 1907, at 10 o’clock a. m., and that M. O'Brien, Neil Mullins and James Passard, members of this board, bea committee to examine | the proposed location of said road | i | and that said committee will meet at | the beginning of the route of said proposed road on Saturday the 30th day of Novetater. 1907, at 10 o'clock report to this board at the time set for hearing upon said petition. The motion for the adoption of the fore- going reasolution was seconded by Commissioner Mullins and carried by a upanimous vote. On motion made and carried all other road matters were laid over till the next meeting. The bonds of the following banks as county depositories were on motion duly made and carried, approved: First National Bank of Grand Rap- ids, First State Bank of Grand Rap- ids, First-State bank of Deer River and Nashwauk State Bank. Ov motion of Commissioner Mul- lins, seconded by Commissioner Pas- sard, the plat of the Second Addition of Itasca City was approved hy the board, and the County Auditor was instructed to certify the same.
