[eS mes SS Se re NEW DAM TO BE BUILT NOW Work on the new Sanday Lake dam will be’commenced September first. This is the new government dam which will be constructed of concrete and will take the place of the old wooden one nowin use. An appro- priation was made for the work at the last session of congress and con- siderable surprise was aroused wheo the announcement was made that the dam would be constructed without locks, as the steamer Irene that plies the river from Aitkin to Grand Rapids does a good deal of business at Sanday Lake and finds it necessary to run into the lake. Congressman Bede promised to look after this feature but it is not definitely known what the plans are. ‘The first consignment of materiai has arrived in Aitkin and will go up river on Irene ov the next trip. The material is consigned to Capt. Schultz but as he is succeeded by Maj. Shunk that official will no doubt have charge of the work. There will probably be a great deal of material shipped from this point.—Aitkin Age.
