The last Thursday in November is .the day set apart by this great coun- try of ours, (these grand and ‘glorious United States) for ‘“Thauksgiving day, a day wherein every man, woman child should bow their heads in prayer to our Maker for the mul- titude of blessings which He has seen fit to bestow upon each and every one of us, though wicked and sinful we might have been all of our lives. He has been good to the ‘sin- ner as well as} to the saint. He has caused the rain to fall upon the uo- just as well as the just, and yet how far we fall short of our duty to our maker. <A great many people cer- tainly misconstrue the object and purposes of Thanksgivingday. There are some who with gun and dog take to the fields to shoot the innocent and unsyspecting quail or dove; many others, for any kind of sport, fun or frolic, ammusements of any nature, anything but the real pure pose for which this day was intended. Some few have a different view and these wil] remain at home and talk and discuss their neighbor, ‘their faults and habits, not for a moment do they speak of the good traits of these frends and neighbors, but gossiping and tattling seem to be the ruling enjoyment of tho day. ‘Then there 1g a class, who well know the object and purpose of Thanksgiv- ing day and this class thuugh small, yes, very small, will respect this good day and spend it as the day should be. A few of these good people will meet in theif holy sanctuary and tnere life up their voices in prayer to their Master for the many blessings and comforts showered upon them and theirs. This class of people are few and far between, yet the goud Lord will hear and answer these prayers. My dear young man, stop and refiect eer you desecrate this great and good day. Celebrate it as it should be and as it was intented to be, a day of prayer and thanksgivirg to onr good Master for bis goodness and kindness to us through allof our lives. As the day rolJs around we oft times reflect, when we see the youth of the country preparing for wicked and sinful sport that he intends to par- ticipate in, how greatly the meaning of this good day is misconstrued. Turn over a new leaf, young man, in life’s history and vow to do so no more, but instead assemble with those who do know and who will always be found doing the right thing at your church, and there in humble submission to His will, offer up to your good Master a prayer for his blessings.—A Sermon. Don’t grumble if your paper is not always flush up to the high standard of your ideal, Charitably remember that no editor is capable of getting up quite as good a paper as you couid yourself. We heard a man the other day kicking for a chance to work. ‘That man was a false alarm. No man who wants work these days need to be without employment ten hours. There is all kinds of work in this district, and good wages can be secured by good men. The Rey, Irl R. Hicks 1907 Almanac. The Rev. Irl R.
