Sam Cable ipsists ‘that Grand Rapids js. a much better town in which to do usiness today than ipever was vefore and it always has heen the best town along tae line of the Great Northerp railway—and a) ought to Know. He has been iu business here fora number of years and has traveled on phe road for wholesale houses for more than Lwo years past, and naturally being a pretty shrewd business prop- osition himself, he ought to knuw whereof he speaks) Mr. Cable bases his opinion more particutarly on the business done by “Central Market” during the past four weeks since that place was opened to serve the public. Te say the cash receipts during that bime haye been greater than ever be- fore in his business experience in this town. With three meat markets in Grand Rapids, all getting their full share of “trade, Mr. Cable concludes phat our people are living good and have money to pay for good things to at. M. RETURNED FROM OREGON faster Percy Warner Brings Back Some News of Itascans In Oregon. After spending three or four months in Oregon with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Juhbn A. Brown, Percy Warner returned to Grand Rapids Jast week and will remain here during phe next year to attend school. He flidn’t like the west first-rate, so he says, and doesn’t know of any Minne- sota people out there who are partic- ularly “stuck oniu” “My mother says she 1s well satisfied out there, but I guess she'd rather be in Grand Rap- ids. She doesn’t like to complain. Mr. Brown doesn’t like it nearly as Well as he does Itasca county, but he has done well locating people on tim- ber claims. They will both be bick ere jo spend the winter.” Just be- fore leaving Oregon Percy met Mes- dames McCarthy and Steven who had arrived. They were preparing to take timber claims. Fred J. Stevens, former editor of the Magnet, is work- ing in a printing office at Lake View, Oregon, and it is his intention w re- in in that country. Senator cCarthy is talking of locating in ‘Tacoma for the practice of law. Mr. and Mrs. Brown are living at Silver ake, Oregon. When Michi el Rellis, of Sault Ste. Marie, visited his brother John ip Grand Rapi some time ago, he had with bim several four-dollar Canadian pills, which he freely distributed as souvenirs, taking in exchange four United States dollars. ‘There is now pffered $100 for these bills by numis- matists. There may be several of phese bills still held by parties who came into possession of them through Mr. Rellis. The story of the bill is as follews: The Canadian govern- quent in getting out a new and more artistic issue of 4 Ddills conceived. the idea that it would be appropriate to have a picture of the new Canadian lock at Sault Ste. Marie appear on the bills. So a pic- pure was ordered and a large issue of the $4 bills with the lock handsomely engraved soon made ils appearance, within a year after the completion of phe great waterway. After the issue had gone into general ‘circulation somebody made the interesting dis- coyery that the picture of the lock on he Canadian money was of the Amer- ican lock. This ‘excited so much amusement and criticism that the Dominion government called the issue in and the bills are now su scarce as yp be a novelty. New Tailoring Firm. All they ask of the public is a chance to show what they cau do. They have no fear of the results. In this issue of the Herald- Reyiew will be seen ‘their bus- iness announcement in a conspicuous place on the first page. Minnesoaa State Fair.
