Itasca Mercantile Co. —___ | SMALL CHANCE OF CHANGE. Land Office Likely to Remain at Cass Lake, Says Washington Advices. Those who desire the transfer of the United States land office from Cass Lake to Bemidji will be called upon by W. A. Richards, commis- sioner of the general land office, to show cause why such transfer should be made, says a telegram from Wash- ington. Cominissiouer Richards said that he intended to write to Repre- sentative Steenerson et al that, as he is to be in Washington the remainder of the summer, he would be pleased to see them, upon any date which might suit their convenience. It is understood that a fund nas been raised in Bemidji to send a dele- gation to Washington to protest against the permanent location of the land office at Cass Lake. Those who have contributed to this fund may, according to Commissioner Richards, send their representatives to Washington to present their argu- ments whensvever it pleases them and they will be granted a full hear- ing. Itappears, however, that the work at Cass Lake has beeneminently satisfactory to the land office officials here and there is small chance that a change in the location of the land office will be made. One is to be Established Along Entirely New Lines According to Report. It is reported by the press that a private sanatorium is to be esta- blished in Itasca county, where Dr. Michael Sehn of Chicago, who has as- sociated with him Dr. Janeway of New York, and other physicians, has purchased 5,000 acres of timber land, The physicians interested in the venture will establish a retreat where men fagged out from business worry may be absolutely free from strenuous city life. The management will erect thirty or forty log houses on the im- mense tract, where patients will live, doing their own cooking, chopping wood and living a healthful outdoor life generally. Three physicians will be in attend- ance at the camp, as well as several guides and teamsters.
