Mr. Moses Sianston appdared before the Board and asked for an abatement upon lots 5 and 6, block 14, Plat of Akeiey, taxes, penalties | and interest and costs for the years 1892 to 1897 inclusive, amounting to the sum of $111.41, and he asked that the amount be abated to the sum of $25, after a lengthy discussion as to the value | of the platted lands in the village of Laprairie. ete, Commissioner Rellis moved that the taxes ot Mr. Manston be abated two-thirds of the total amour.t due. The motion was duly sec- onded and carried, and the abatement, for the aboye amount was recommended to the state auditor for his approval. Jessie L. Varley made application for the | abatement of penalty. interest. and costs upon | lots 18, 14 and 15, block 8, First, Division of | Grand’ Rapids. upon motion duly made and carried the penalty, interest and costs on the same was abated. | Elmer Brock made application for the abate- ment of penalty and interest on lot 4 block 11, Platof Akeley. On motion duly moved and carried, said abatement was allowed. E. A. Arnold make application for.an abat ment of taxes upon the nw}4 of nwa, section town 71-22. On motion duly made and second- ed, the amount of penalty and interest due apon said land was abated. C. A. Buell appeared before the Board and | asked for un abatement on lands owned by him in Buell’s addition to Laprairie. On motion duly made and ‘carried. an abatement of two- ti irds of the total amount due was abated. | M. Sisler appeared before the Board and :ked for an abatement of the taxes upon lots »2and 3, Platof Laprairie. On motion duly made and carried. an abatement of two-thirds of the total amount due, and it was so recom- mended to the :tate auditor for his approval. J. H, Sharp made application on behalf of James Traverse for the retundinent of the sum of $88.72, taxes paid for the years In%6. 1s! and 1s¢8, on lands in ‘Town 1) d asked th refundmeut on the grounds that the land was not subject to taxation for said years as_they were at that time the property of the ‘ited States government. The application ac- companied by a certificate from the Register of the United States Land Office. After a care- ful examination of same. it was decided tha: the lands in question were not taxable for the \ years 1896 and 1897, but were subject to taxation for tbe year 1898. On motion duly made and carricd, the refundment of the taxes of the years 1896 and 1597 were allowed and recom- mended to the state auditor Jor his approval. The matter of salaries for the ensuing year was taken under co! eration, and after dis- cussing the matter t some length, a motion wasmade that the salary for the County At- torney for the year 190) be fixed in the sum of $750. The motion was duly scconded and carried. Upon a motion duly made and seconded the salaries of the Probate Judge, perintendeut of Schools and the County Physician were fixed at the same amounts for 1900 as for the prior year. Commissioner Everton moved that the solary of the janitor for the ensuing year be fixed at the sum of $60 per month. The motion was duly seconded and carried. Commissioners cf Fred J. The following resolution was submitted: Whereas, Section ten (10) of Chapter three | hundred twenty-two (322) of the General Laws of 1899, authorizes the Board of County Com missioneds of the several counties to allow a reasonable compensation to the Auditor for the preparing of the list of forfeited lands, to be sold under said act, therefore be it Resolved, That the County Auditor of Itasca - County be and _is hereby allowed the sum ot fifteen cents (15¢.! for each and every descrip- tion in said forfeited list, as compensation for lis services as required under the provisians of aid act. .Commissioner Rellis moyed that the resolu- | tion be adopted. the motion was duly seconded, and upon roll call unanimously adopted.
