Pursuant to law the Board of County Com- missioners met at the auditor's office this ¢th day of January, 1898. Present: Commissoners Logan, and Lydick. A full board. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Commissioner Logan was eleeted chairman for the ensuing year. Mr. A. Y. Merrill, on behalf of Albert H. ors and George A. R. Simpson. appeared sfore the Board and presented an applica- n for a license to construct and maintain a sluice Dam across Prairie River in section 20, town 59, range 22. Itappearing to the satisfaction of this Bourd that a sluice dam was necessary at the point named in said application, and that the said applicants were suitable per- sons to construct and maintain such sluice dam, Commissioner Wilder offered the fol- lowing resolution, and moved its adoption: Whereas, Albert H. Powers and George A. R. Simpson did, on the 4th day of January, 1898, file a petition with the Buard of County Commissioners of Itasca county for a license to construct and maintun a dam for the purpose of raising a head of water sufficient to sluice logs. timber and lumber, on what is commonly known as Prairie River in said Itasca county, said dam to be Jocated on the southeast quarter cf the southwest quarter of section 20, in township 59, range 22, in said county: and haying filed due proof of the posting of the notice of their said applica- tion for such license in three public places at the county seat of said Itasca county, and in the office of the surveyor general of the second lumber district of the Stute of Minne- sota, wherein logs running from the place where such dam is proposed to be built are reguired to be scaled, which said notices were posted more than twenty days prior to the 4th day of January, 1808.
