Hastings, for the} sum of $3235.36, making in all $8846.60 After due consideration, it was de termined that the best interest of the county would be subserved by the vy and extension of a tax, sufficient in amount to meet such judgments, therefore, the following resolution was offered: Be it resolved that the sum of $12- 000.00 be, and the same is herepy mede a levy upon all tixable proper- ty of Itasca county, for the year 1897, for the payment of two judg- ments entered against Itasca county, aggregating, the snm of $8846.60, said judgments being in favor of W. E. Tate and Chas. W. Hastings. Said resolution being unanimously adopted. Mr. Ottis Staples, made applica- tion for abatement of taxes in ‘Town 60-22. Upon motion, the Auditor was instructed tv inform Mr. Staples, that this Board had uo data as to the actual value of the lands owned by him, or the amount of timber there- on, and that such Board would cause the examination of such land prior to thenext assestment, and adjust the valuation corresponding to the other lands of like value in that section of the county; and if it were found that such lands had been over valued for 1896, that such Board weuld trext him as fairly as the case would war- rant. Mr. Charles Kearney, appeared be- fore the Board, and desired that a contract be awarded to himself and Mr. A. B. Clare, for comparing and correcting the Tract Indexes jn the Register of Deeds office, heretofore made by hin, for the sum of $3438.71, saidsum being the amount claimed to be que Chas. Afterasomewbat prolonged consid- eration, it was determined to enter nnn nn nonin into a contract with Charles Kearney and A. B. Clare, for a complete com- parison and correction of said Tract Indexes, for the sum of $1438.71, upon the condition that the said Charles Keurney, should release Itasca coun- ty from all further liability for the compilation of such Tract Indexes, iv being understood that the said bill oi claim, was disallowed on August 14th, last past, for the reason that numerous errors and omissions had been made in such compilation. Whereupon, Charles Kearney, filed with the Board a satisfactory release from further charges for compilation ofsuch Indexes. There"pon, a con- tract was awarded to the said Charles Kearney and A. B. Clare, to -onipare each and every instrument of record in the Register of Deeds office, and each and every entry wade in said ‘Tract Indexes, fer the sum of $1438.71. It being a part of such contract, that when such work was complete, and prior to the payment thereof, sait Indexes should be absolutely correct and satisfactory to this Board so far as this contract is conucerued.
