Chanter issued & statement saying the action was taken in order to “preserve the status quo until the company’s plans for re- organization can be successfully con- summated.” Stockholders approved a reorganiza- tion plan September 2. Chanter filed a petition setting forth that reorganization plans had been de- layed due to adverse conditions in the securities market. Postmaster General James A. Farley has been mentioned as a possible new head of the company. Chanter’s statement mentioned “the person of national importance” who DECEMBER 22, 1937. is to be invited to become head of the company upon completion of delayed financing. “I have reason to believe that the interest of the person of natiomal im- portance will not be affected by the present action of the company, but I decline either to affirm or deny re- ports that Postmaster General James A, Farley is the individual referred to.” Farley Rumor Renewed. NEW YORK, Dec. 22 (#)—The | voluntary petition for reorganization filed by the Pierce-Arrow Motor Corp. focused attention anew on the future of Postmaster General James A. Far- |ley, who was slated to become head of the company after it had carried out a plan of reorganization approved last September, Farley was i Washington, and others who had a part in the Pierce- Arrow arrangements would make no comment.
