Officials of the National Geographic Society and the Pan-American Union expressed sorrow yesterday over the death at Nice, France, of Mrs. Harriet Chalmers Adams, internationally known explorer and wife of Frarklin Pierce Adams, former counselor of the Pan-American Union. “Mrs. Adams’ charming personality, keen mind and broad interests en- deared her®to a host of friends throughout the Americas and many other countries,” a statement by the Pan-American Union said. At the National Geographic Society it was pointed out she was a member of long standing and a frequent con- tributor to the National Geographic Magazine and had lectured at least 10 times before the society in connec- | tion with her varied explorations. | Mrs. Adams died early yesterday, | according to a cabled message from | her husband to friends here, She had been in ill health for some time and apparently had gone to Nice recently to recuperate. Mr. and Mrs. Adams had been trav- eling in the Canary Islands, the Azores, Greece, the Balkan States, Italy and France since Adams’ retire- ment in 1933 from the Pan-Ameri- can Union. Beginning her wanderings in 1900 in Mexico, Mrs. Adams had toured many parts of the globe. She was the first white woman to invade some regions of Central and South America. Seymour Was Hit by One Truck and Run Over by Another. A verdict of accidental death was returned yesterday by a ioroner's jury | in the case of John P. §eymour, 24, Sparrows Point, Md., who was fatally injured Friday when knocked down by one truck and run over by another | at North Capitol street and New York avenue, The verdict exonerated Herbert H. Scott, 27, colored, Culpeper, Va., and | Claggett W. Higgins, 53, Baltimore, drivers of the trucks. ‘Testimony showed Seymour was caught between the two trucks as they started off after having waited, by side, for a green light.
