Wallace, jr., small daughter, Frances Victoria Wal- lace, who have recently returned from a stay of five years in Honolulu. Mr. Wallace, who is in the Navy De- partment, has been transferred to Philadelphia. Mrs. Dyer's mother, Mrs. Frances n Capztal tland, who with Mr. Cummings irginia News ills Home. with Mr. and Mrs. Walter Johnson, | | who moved there from Virginia High- lands about a year ago, Mr. Johnson ha\mg been transferred to Florida in ‘Weather Bureau. | Mr. and Mrl F‘runcw Miller of Sandy Spring gave a dinner dance at their home, Wanstead, Thursday | night. The guests were Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Farquhar, Mr. and Mrs Thomls \s also| Hyde, Mr. and Mrs. Rust Canby, Paul, Minn. and Mrs. Henry Owings, Mr. and Mr< { | their house guest this Winter. By the Way— Beth Blaine THE last dance of the first series of the Friday Supper Club at the Sulgrave was such a success that we are patiently awaiting the second series, starting in Pebruary, From the attendance last night, it was obvious that Washington has definitely recovered from the grippe, which made the last partly slightly empty and cold, as each one suspected their best friend of carrying the dreaded germ. The husky tenor of the diminutive crooner, | gowned in red, was an appreciated novelty last night furnished by Meyer Davis’ orchestra, while waltzes were definitely in demand. At Mrs. John R. Williams’ table we saw Mrs. Warren Delano Robbins in @ pervanche frock, most becoming to her lovely hair with its mauve tinge, Ralph Hill with little Mrs. Clifton Phillips in a flesh tafleta dress whirled by in a breath-taking Viennese waltz. Those glimpsed at random making merry while the crystals of the chandeliers tinkled approval were: Jimmie Parks with Carlile Porter in biack velvet-banded tafleta . . . Dodie Sowers and Baron Dreyhausen . Teenie Ekengren in diaphanous chiffon with Dick Hawkins from Pittsburgh, who is here studying for the Foreign Service . . . Ethel Worthington in a diamond-studded tulle gown which glittered at each glide . . . Jerry Wright with Mrs. Kent Legare, who wore a black sequin dress . . . Jane Watson in electric blue tulle chatting with Brinkley Smithers , . . Mimi Scott and Josh Evans .. Martha Davidge in an adorable yellow taflela dress arriving with Nora de With, who was her guest of honor at dinner, and her other guests. Nora seemed to lead the fashion parade in black satin with touches of blue. Satin definitely was in order. Christine Long’s emerald green with touches of sable was most becoming, and Mrs. Jasper Du Bose's beige satin with intriguing decolletage was very unusual, Glimpsed at various tables were Mr. and Mrs. Morris Clark, Doggy Waggaman with his sister, Grace Pulver; and David Van Buren and Belle Johnson. In one corner of the room, Winant Johnston and Mrs. “Chip” Rob- ert seemed to be exchanging anecdotes; and nearby, Mrs. Simms S8now was seen with her dinner guests, including Mr. and Mrs. Aldace Walker and the young Jimmey O'Donnells. Elinor Ryan showed up, which was an unex- pected pleasure for her many friends, since she has rarely been on hand this Winter—constantly in New York on conferences about her new house, which she is building on Foxhall road. The plentiful stagline, proving an ample answer o any maiden’s prayer, included Eugene O’'Dunn, Harold Fangboner, Forest Close, whose private conclusions were that this was the besi dance of the year; Bill Brewster and Frank Curie and many, many more. The delightful informality of the supper dances, where one may wander from table to table for a bit of chit chat and occasional visit with one’s friends, ‘makes the parties most popular. * * & x "THE elasticity of a bachelor’s establishment leaves the feminine contingent, who must contend with the domestic situation, flabbergast! When told that perhaps we will have eight guests to dinner, the cook promptly looks bored, and the maid seems to be remembering that she had a date for that night! However, the domestic lot of a bachelor seems not so hard. Donald Downs gave a dinner Wednesday night before the dance at 1925 F street and a few moments before he announced that two more places were to be added to that already groaning board. There was no trouble at all! The guests turned out to be Cornelius Vanderbilt and Sailing Baruch, just arrived § | tog inaugural- participation. Neilly Vanderbiit was anzious to encounter his friend Maj. O'Brien, who inadvertently had caused his delay at some Governor's reception that afternoon. Having argued with a hat check girl that the head- gear she proffered was not his own, Neilly discovered that his friend O'Brien, had thoughtlessly appropriated his hat and disappeared into the abyss of political activity. The showdown came at 1925 F sireet, when the major was sarcastically made aware of his “kleptomaniacal” activities. Remembering the incident of receiving from Neiliy, by mistake, for Christmas. a box containing two dozen wash cloths instead of handkerchiefs, plus a billet-doux with the gentle greeting . “Here—use your own and stop borrowing mine!” Maj. O'Brien optimistically expects a few dozen and their | connection with his service with the d"bles next Christmas \hss Nlartha Bishop [Mrs. Halsey Namcd AndMr. Henderson | To Head Sponsors Mrs. Edwin A.
