BISHOP STRIDER 10 END MISSION Three Sermons Today Will Conclude Services at St. John’s. Right Rev. Robert E. L. Strider, D. D., Bishop Coajutor of West Virginia, who has been conducting -a mission at St. John's Church, will conclude his services with three sermons today. Bishop Strider, one of the outstand- ing members of the Episcopal clergy, will speak at 9:30 am, 11 am. and 8:30 p.m., taking as his topic “The Holy Spirit.” Bishop Strider has been conducting daily missions at St. John's since last Sunday. His morning talks have been devoted to discussions of personal re- ligion, explaining to his audiences how everyday life affects religion and how religion in turn is affected by the affairs of everyday life. His evening talks have been devoted to an exposition of the great funda- mental beliefs of the Christian church, stated in modern language in relation to modern problems. Starting his mission work in West Virginia 13 years ago, Bishop Strider has met with such success that his services are in demand in dioceses all over the country. He is convinced that these simple, heart-to-heart talks with the members of the various parishes are a highly effective means of teach- ing the lessons of Christianity and stimulating interest in the work of the church. A member of the board of trustees of the Virginia Theological Seminary 8t Alexandria, Bishop Strider at one time attended that institution. He has also talked here several times in the annual Lenten services. RED CROSS DESCRIBED Aid to Service Men and Veterans Outlined by Fieser. Fieser, vice chairman of the | organization. He said the men assisted, together with families helped in some cases, numbered 357,548 in the last fiscal year. The work involved going into the homes of veterans as well as as- sisting those in Government hospi= tals, other institutions and military camps. CITY NEWS IN BRIEF.
