BOY, 14, INDICTED IN SLAYING CHUM Grand Jury Refuses Murder Action, but Charges Man- slaughter in Shocting. Bv the Assoclated Press. The grand jury earlier declined to indict him for murder. Lyle's trial will begin Monday. “I didn’t mean to pull the trigger, I didn't mean to shoot and I didn't mean to kill him,” Lyle wept. The penalty for involuntary man- slaughter is three years in prison and a $1,000 fine; for pointing firearms a year in jail. The grand jury took only & short time to set aside the murder charge, after hearing several witnesses. The boys were shooting frogs at a pond near Kenneyville. Lyle was or one EVENING side and Hugh on the other. Several boy said they heard Lyle cry: “8tick 'em up.” There was a shot. Hugh fell dead. Some sald Lyle offered to pay them to hide the body. There was no quarrel, all agreed. THE Fourth Slaying Attempt Succeeds. PHILADELPHIA, August 18 (#).— QGang guns got John Avena yesterday after three other attempts failed. Avena was shot and severely wounded three times since 1926. Detectives said they were investigating a pos- sible connection between the siaying and a lottery racket.
