This was an increase of | 40.5 per cent over the $4,327,361,000 in the same week last year. In the preceding week the total was 11.6 per cent under the compara- ble period in 1935. The percentage gain in the latest of July 3, 1935, at which time the comparison was for a full week against five days in 1934. At New York City the total of $4,- 021,282,000 was 41.4 per cent ahead of the clearings last year when they totaled $2,843,856,000. while the amount at outside centers was $2.- 057,816,000, a gain of 38.7 per cent over 1935, | Higher totals were registered at all cities.
