& LOANS FOR FARM REPAIRS INCREASE Record Is Reached in April With $1,748,331 Insured. The volume of business insured for the development and repair of farm property under the modernization credit plan of the Federal Housing Administration has increased steadily #ince the inception of the program to reach a new record for the month of April, when 3,949 notes were in- sured for a total of $1,748,331.38 This figure brings the cumulative figure since the beginning of the pro- gram in September, 1934, to 37,010 notes in the amount of $13,802,868.25. With very few exceptions, each suc- ceeding month has shown a decided gain over the month before. During March of this year a total of 3,300 notes were insured for $1,179,701.54. California is far ahead of the other States in business done under the modernization credit plan. Farm- ers in that State have been ex- tended a total of 8,003 loans, amount- ing to $3.498832. New York reports show that 2,702 farm loans, totaling $1,100,837, have been extended there; and the State of Washington holds third place with 1,986 loans, amount- ing to $733,813. Michigan and Ohio are next, the former with 1,712 loans totaling $552,741, while Ohio’s loans total only $49,806, although numbering 1,782. Other States which have done a considerable amount of farm busi- ness under the terms of the national housing act include Illinois, 1208 loans, $454,003; Minnesota. 1,089, €320,598; Missouri, 1,000, $323,264; Iowa. 880, $277,156; Arkansas 895, $291,056; Wisconsin, 804. $268,680; Oklahoma, 586. $184,163: Kansas, 430, $125.944; Nebraska, 346, $81.- 178, South Dakota, 138, $34,726; North Dakota, 116, $30,826. $1,150,000 MORTGAGE IS APPROVED BY F. Y., to be insured through the facili- ties of the Federal Housing Adminis- tration was assured today when Federal Housing Administrator Stew- art McDonald announced that plans for the financing of a first mortgage of $1,150.000 on the Chester Crest Apartments to be constructed on a site fronting on Gramaton avenue and Cross County Parkway in the | Fleetwood section of Mount Vernon, N. Y. had been completed. | The plans call for the erection of two groups of five-story elevator build- ings containing a total of 1,068 rooms, or 279 apartments ranging from two to four and one-half rooms in size. The contemplated rentals range from $36 per month for the smallest units to $81 per month for the largest, the average rental per apartment being $68.90 per month. Gray Marble Pilasters.
