NEW YORK, June 22.—Curb mar- ket stocks slipped a trifie lower today under week-end profit taking and ad- Jjustments * of speculative accounts. Trading turned dull on the downside. Most of the utility shares, which had led the market in a brisk rally |« Friday, sold % to % of a point lower under modest offerings and a gen- erally mixed trend prevailed among oils, metals and industrials. Among others selling lower were American Gas, Electric Bond & Share, Lake Shore Mines, Newmont, International Petroleum and Swift & Co. Small advances were made by Mont- gomery Ward “A,” Aluminum Co., Consolidated Gas of Baltimore and Sunshine Minin, Chicago Grain By the Associated Press. CHICAGO, June 22.—Bright skies and rising temperatures throughout the entire United States grain belt, with forecasts of continued like con- ditions, led to all around lower prices today. A general selling movement got under way, and although sympathy with strength of securities caused some recovery, the rallies especially in wheat were not impressive. Use of combines in wheat harvest fields Southwest was expected to be practicable early next week. June July September_ .81 December. . (The following review of the week’s live stock activities was pre- pared especially for the Associated Press by the United States Depart- ment of Agriculture.) CHICAGO, June 22 ()—All live- stock continued to work lower. The situation already distressed was fur- % | ther aggravated by narrow shipping demand in sympathy with semi-de- moralized Eastern dressed trade condi- tions this week. The Eastern con- suming boycott died down without any material benefit to wholesalers. As a result cattle prices flattened |out at least 25 cents, hogs lost & similar amount and fat lambs de- clined 25-50 cents. Killers apparently were not inter- ested in lambs until values had dropped to around $8 at Chicago, the top this week at the same market being only $8.50, against $10 paid early last week. In round numbers, lambs are $1-$2 below the high time 10 days ago. ‘The recent swift drop in eattle prices, however, is even more severe, - 4 | strictly finished Leavy steers the mates of offerings which sold upward to $16.25 early in May, descending to $13 at Chicago. A slight midweek flare-up {in cattle prices proved to be short- lived. All Grades Suffer. The fact that there was no basic imprmemem prevented salesmen from | regaining control of the market. All grades of fed steers and yearlings were punished but well-finished offerings fared the worst because of lax ship- | ping demand. All interests in fact were forced to slow up operations be- | cause of the pile-up in dressed chan- nels, better grade steers and yearlings being hit hardest. The $13.00 steers above mentioned were really in a class by themselves, and therefore a specialty, very care- fully finished offerings having to go at $12.25a$12.60. The Chicago top for yearlings was $11.65, paid for 996- pound offerings, also possessing ou standing merit from a killing stand- point, only occasional loads beating $11.25. Near-choice steers, as a rule, 4| showed the full decline and practi- 54 | cally all grades of yearlings were under severe pressure, buyers finally succeeding in lowering better grade heifer and mixed yearlings which looked top heavy in comparison with steers selling within the same price range. With the exception of & few small lots the top for yearling heifers | at Chicago this week was $10.25. | Strietly choice 1,166-pound steers could not beat $11.50 at Omaha and the extreme Kansas OCity top for weighty fed steers and 950-pound yearlings was $11, Grass Is Abundant. Abundant grass throughout the country tended to hold back low-grade killing steers, but on the other hand the country practically stopped buy- ing replacement cattle. Everything felt the price pinch, there being pri- marily an oversupply of fed steers and yearlings carrying considerable finish. The run at seven principal Midwest- ern markets was approximately 89,- 000 cattle, against 111,000 during the Hog re- ceipts at the same markets increased slightly, but around 30.000 fewer sheep and lambs arrived. A $9.70 hog top at Chicago on Wednesday was the lowest in over & month, 200-240- pound weights closing largely at $9.60a$9.75 on Thursday. Late plant deliveries in Iowa were made largely at $8.95a$9.15 for good to choice 200- | 250-pound hogs. 250-350-pound aver- ages going mostly at $8.40a$9.05, [HIGHER NET REPORTED BY REMINGTON RAND By the Associated Press.
