Washington _tomorrow from New York, where he has been spending » few days with Mrs. Farley and their children. HE Postmaster General, Mr. I James A. Farley, will return to Mrs. Homer 8. Cummings, wife of the Attorney General, is back from a 10 day’s stay in the South, most of which was spent at Asheville, N. C. ‘The Secretary of the Navy, Mr. Claude A. Swanson, returned to Wash- ington this morning from Virginia, where he spent the week end with Mrs. SBwanson. Senator and Mrs. Peter Goelet Gerry are spending a few days at Hot “Springs, Va. Representative and Mrs. Allen T. Treadway are at the Red Lion Inn at Stockbridge, Mass. for a few days. The United States Ambassador of Mexico and Mrs. Josephus Daniels have arrived in Asheville, N. C. They will open their Summer home at Lake Junaluska late this month. The minister plenipotentiary and counselor of the Brasilian Embassy, Senhor C. de Freitas-Valle, and the second secretary of the embassy, Senhor Declo de Moura, will return today from White Sulphur Springs, W. Va,, where they spent several days at the Greenbrier. United States Tarift Commissioner Oscar B. Ryder and Mrs. Ryder ar- rived in New York on the 8. 8. Presi- dent Roosevelt. Mr. and Mrs. Ryder are returning to their home in Alex- andris, Vs, after a three-month trip in Burope. Tariff Commissioner Ryder repre- sented the United States at the World Economic_Conference in in him into the eapitals and-marketing centers of Italy, Germany, Austria, France, Belgium and England. Miss Jean Wallace, young daughter of the Secretary and Mrs. Wallace, will leave soon for Des Moines, Jowa, where she will visit be- fore going to Minnesota for the re- mainder of the Summer. Beverly Society News Washington Smart Set Returns to North Shore Environs. BEVERLY, Mass, June 8—With the opening of the polo season at the Myopia Hunt Club in Hamilton, colonists from many of the North Shore communities witnessed the Harvard-Myopia match this after- noon. Washington is well represented among the early arrivals along the North Shore and the colony of visitors | from the Nation's Capital promises to be larger than for many seasons. There was a fine patronage this afternoon for the plant and seedling aale under the auspices of the North Shore Horticultural Society at the Rockmarge estate of Mrs. William H. Moore of New York. Mrs. Moore, who returned this week from Africa, where she spent the Winter and early Spring, arrived today at her Rockmarge place and assisted the committee, which was headed by Mrs. John Caswell of Round Plains Kennels, Pride's Crossing, in making the affair a success. The Essex County Club at Man- chester and the Myopia Hunt Club, Hamilton, are open for the season and will be the rendezvous for many Wash- ington gatherings this Summer. The vacht clubs, Eastern and Corinthian at Marblehead, Jubilee at Beverly, Manchester at Manchester and the Cape Ann group are in commission for the season. Attractive race sched- ules have been arranged and there is promise of a busy full social calendar. After three Summers at Beverly Farms where they had the Metcaife cottage atop Malt Hill, West Beach, Col. and Mrs. Edward Mandell House have taken the Nichols cottage on University lane at Manchester. They plan to be on the North Shore until October 1. For 25 Summers, Col. and Mrs. House have been on the North 8hore and have lived at Beverly Cove, Beverly Farms, Manchester and M nolia. President Woodrow Wilson was a guest at Magnolia and President Roosevelt visited Col. House several times while he was residing at the farms. Mrs. Randolph F. Tucker, daughter of Col. and Mrs. House, will spend the Summer at Hamilton. Mrs. Marshall Fleid, who resides in Washington, is coming to Prides Orossing again this Summer and has leased the Frederick M. Alger cottage, Edgerock, one of the most attractive in that colony, with a charming ocean view. The estate is owned by Fred- erick M. Alger of Detroit, owner of the famous steeplechaser, Asucar.
