NEW YORK, Aprii 11.—Bank clearings show some recession from Transit Companies Boost Equipment Purchases Sharply By the Associated Press NEW YORK, April 11.—Orders for passenger equipment placed by tran- sit companies in the first quarter of 1935 indicate that purchases of units for the year will exceed those of 1934, according to the Transit Journal. Taking all trpes of new equipment the value of orders in the first quar- ter was placed at $17,130,720, against $18,664,705 for the entire year of 1934. preceding weeks, as well as from those of a year ago. Tnhe total for the 22| leading cities in the United States for | the week ended Wednesday. April 10, | Inc., was $5200.577,000, against $5,- | 742,746,000 for the same week of last | year, a loss of 9.4 per cent. ‘This contrasted with a gain of 17.4 per cent in the previous week. At New York City, clearings were $3.624,- from the amount reported last year, while the aggregate for centers out- side of New York of $1,576,459,000 was |59 per cent higher. The report this week makes the | poorest showing since early in Febru- ary. The decline was mainly at New | { York City, and may reflect reduced | stock dealings, compared with the early part of April, 1934. Smaller | | losses in clearings also appeared at Boston, Buffalo, Baltimore and Omaha, while the gains at most of the other cities included were belov\ those of recent preceding weeks. Clearings the last week were. in the aggregate, $509,556,000 smaller than those for the first part of the month, which was somewhat above the usual decline, whereas a year ago, for the | same two weeks, there was an in- | crease of $876.580.000. | showing for the second week of the month. -inch - minimum. 23, l)('h minimum. 5 1.00al.15; 53, 2 b, Wme'aps U §.
