PREST AND LONG STORED ON WAGES Methodist Social Service | Report Charges Their Workers Poorly Paid. Br the Associated Press NEW VYORK, April 3.—Father Charles E. Coughlin and Senator Huey P. Long were described by the Meth- odist Federation for Social Service Jast night as being in a race, along with Gen. Hugh S. Johnson, “for the leadership of our developing fascism.” “The triangular contest in vitupera- tion on the air between Johnson, Coughlin and Long was the prelim- inary try-out in the race,” said a re- port prepared by the federation sec- retaries, Rev. Dr. Harry F. Ward and Miss Winifred L. Chappell. The report mentions Gen. Johnson only to link him, as an ally of Presi- dent Roosevelt, in the contest. PREACHERS' UNION [0 AIDIN STRIKES Pastors Seek Affiliation With A. F. L. to Lend Helping Hand. By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, April 3.—The pastor i may carry a union card—the Minis- ters’ Union of America has approxi- mately 100 members—but there is no danger that the congregation will find him picketing the ghurch on Sunday morning. Although a ministers’ strike is un- likely, the organization will assist other unions in strikes which the clergymen believe are justified. In two recent New York strikes union members carried sandwich boards on the picket lines, exhorted the strikers at mass meetings and No Matter What Your Age No Need Now to Let THE EVENING ST lent a helping hand with the strikers’ clerical work. The primary aim of the union is to aid the cause of labor, said Rev. George Mills, organizer. “Our object is to indicate the one- ness of the church with the marchers in the ranks of the disinherited,” he explained. “We have made application to be- come part of the American Federation of Labor because our beliefs are in accordance with the aims of the fed- eration.” The membership has extended to citles in nearly all parts of the East, Mills said. The work of aiding labor unions is on a voluntary basis and AR, WASHINGTON, contributions from wealthier ministers have helped defray clerical costs. Marbury’s “inedible egg” bill had the “distinction” of being “lost” three times before being finally passed Monday night. Controversial bills mysteriously dis- appear on the last night of every ses- sion, but the egg bill is believed to have set a record by keing “lost” three times in the past two weeks, as it ad- vanced by slow stages through the House and Senate. ‘The measure would require persons or firms handling “broken out” eggs to obtain a permit from the State Board of Health and forbid their sale on premises where eggs are used for food. Another Marbury egg bill, known as the “fresh egg” act, defines what con- stitutes fresh eggs and prescribes what eges shall be sold as “fresh,” “large,” “medium” and “small.” Its enforce- ment is placed in the hands of the State Board of Agriculture. * B—5 Frederic Permanent, $5.00 Eugene Zotos Croquignole Permanents a3 low as $3.00 Fashioned by Mr. Anglin Call Mr. Anglin, 2515 14th NW.
