Secretary and Mrs. Ickes Return from Florida Visit. The Secretary of the Interior and Mrs. Harold L. Ickes will return today from Florida, where they spent sev- eral days. Dr. Margaret Godfrey was a member of the staff of the Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles. They will sail today on the Majestic and will spend some time in Edinburg, Scotland, where Dr. Margaret Godfrey will qualify for British practice, Dr. Merle Godfrey already having done so. First Match Tomorrow For Skeet Shooting Title. The first match for the skeet shooting championship of the diplo- matic corps will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Only members of the “corps” may compete. A trophy has been donated by the Ambassador of France, M. de La- boulaye. This trophy will remain in the club and on it will be engraved the name of the winner. The match will be run on a handi- cap basis in order that every one may have a chance to win. Guns will be available for those who do not have them. All who wish may practice this afternoon when one field will be for the exclusive use of the members of the “corps.” The marriage Monday, March 18, of Miss Mae Esterly, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Irwin Esterly, and Mr. Gordon F. Penick of Richmond, Va., came as a surprise to their host of friends. Their engagement was announced and & formal wedding planned, but concluded to hasten the affair and were married by the Rev. John E. Briggs with only a few guests present. Mrs. Glen Walley was matron of honor and Mr. Victor Blundon acted as best man for Mr. Penick. The indoor horse show to be held | in the riding hall at Fort Myer, Va., on Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock will | | afford the spectators a thrilling eve- ning with the various jumping classes, but the one class that is creating a great deal schools. Class 4 on the Fort Myer show program for Tuesday evening is limited to horses owned by riding schools and must be ridden by pupils of riding schools that have never won a blue ribbon in any class. As a result of the conditions of the class, which was arranged by Col. Kenyon Joyce, commanding officer at Fort Myer, to further the growing interest in horsemanship in Washington, every local riding school is conducting classes for the training of their en- tries, and every representative selec- ! ted will have the support of his or her friends. REDWOOD CITY, Calif., March 23. —Herschel Cobb, 18, yesterday was free of an assault and battery charge instituted after a purported trip to his cabin with Miss Julia Conner, 19. The son of the noted former base ball star, Ty Cobb, was acquitted last night by a justice court jury. Miss Conner testified Herschel beat her when she resisted his advances. The youth denied he had struck her, and said he had taken her home as soon as she asked him to. He added Miss Conner had willingly accom- panied him and another couple to the cabin.
