FINANCIAL .3, BONDS HOLD AT STEADY LEVELS Corporate Obligations Gain. Industrial and Utility Groups Neglected. By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, March 23.—Where trading interest was manifested in | the bond list today it was accom- panied by improvement in values. Rail issues performed well and brightened | the corporate division. Industrial and utility groups received comparatively little attention. Having had yesterday an oppor- tunity to register a reaction to the adoption by the House of the Patmun bonus bill and remaining on an even keel in the face of the news, the steady behavior of U. S. Government | issues today occasioned no special | comment in trading circles. | Treasury issues had a mixture of | small gains and losses and dealings were small throughout the group. Buyers paid from fractions to a/ point more for Great Northern 4!ss at 7115, New York Central 5s at 52. Selling pressure was lighter in the foreign department, although French 71;s continued weak. German issues showed rallying tendencies and Italian obligations were steadier. Potato acreage will be about 90,000, as against 101,000 last year. acreage will be about the same as last year, Taylor estimated. RAILROAD CREDIT CORP. TO PAY $726,391 MORE | By the Associated Press. Price Reductions Force Chemical Index Downward Special Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, March 23.—Price re- ductions in the markets for heavy and fine chemicals last week affected & number of articles of importance in several divisions, the Oil, Paint and Drug Reporter will say in its March 25 issue. Advances were rela- tively few, although these also applied to some major materials. The state of business was little changed; de- mand for paint materials showed further improvement and the seasonal call for insecticides was beginning. In most consuming circles buyers ap- peared to be still more cautious. Higher prices were quoted on red lead and litharge in car lots, and on codliver oil. Price reductions com- prised oxide and tetrachloride of tin, stannate of soda, 10 crystals, chrome yellow, calomel, corrosive sublimate nitrate of silver, epsom salt, some varieties of copal, dammar, and kauri gums, corn syrup, dried blood st Chicago, castor pomace, and im- ported nitrogenous fertilizer material. Supplies of xylene continued short. Demand for coaltar dyes wes slower. Prices on chromic acid and hydro- sulphite of soda, issued for the sec- ond quarter, were without change. ‘The Reporter’s index number of prices for heavy and fine chemicals receded from 1255 to 1253 (com- pared with August 1, 1914, as 100). In comparison with average prices in 1926, the Reporter's index number 45 now 88.7, against 90.4 at this time last year. 13481941 Peanut | New So Wales bs '57 BONDS ON N. Y.
