10 LEGTURE HERE Youth Conference Mar. 8-10 to Feature Discussion of Problems. Nationally known leaders will ad- dress the sessions of the United Christian Youth Conference, to be: held in Calvary Baptist Church March | 8, 9 and 10. In general charge of the meetings will be Dr. Jesse M. Bader of New York, secretary of the depart- ment of evangelism of the Federal Council of Churches. He will speak Saturday morning and Sunday after- | noon. Dean Robert Russell Wicks of | Princeton University will speak Fri- day night on “Reality Versus Senti- mentalism.” Dr. Harry N. Holmes will give the address Saturday night. He is fleld secretary of the World Alliance for International Friend- ship Through the Churches. He will also speak Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The opening address will be given by Dr. Dan A. Poling, president of the International Society of Christian Endeavor. He will address the ministers at 10:30, followed by Dean | Wicks. Also to the first session of | the young people Friday at 2 o'clock. An important feature of the con- ference will be the eight discussion groups, each considering some subject of particular interest to youth today. These will be under the supervision of Dr. Harold I. Donnelly of Prince- ton Seminary, chairman of the united youth movement. Dr. Paul D. Eddy of New York, one of the secretaries of the International Council of Re-| ligious Education, will lead one of| these groups and speak Saturday afternoon. Another leader will be| Rev. John C. Millian of Baltimore, | conference director of religious edu- | cation for the Methodist Church. The night sessions will be open to the public. All others will be for the | delegates only. The number who can attend is limited, since all the Pro- testant churches in this area are in- cluded in the invitation to be repre- sented. i The conference is sponsored by the | Washington Federation of Churches, the District Sunday School Associa- tion, Young Men's and Young Wo- men's Christian associations and | various local youth organizations. 'LAYMEN AND CLERGY TO HONOR BISHOP Fellowship Dinner Monday Re- vival of Annual Custom of Long Standing. Laymen and clergy of the diocese of Washington of the Protestant Episco- pal church will attend a fellowship dinner in honor of Bishop James E. Freeman at the Hotel Carlton next Monday at 7 o'clock, thus reviving an annual custom which was started soon after Bishop Freeman was advanced from the rectorship of Epiphany par- ish to the episcopate. Addresses will be delivered by the bishop and Dr. Oliver J. Hart, rector of St. John's Church, Lafayette Square. The dinner is being arranged under the auspices of the Laymen’s League, of which Charles F. Roberts of Em- manuel parish, Anacostia, is president, and Eugene E. Thompson of Epiphany parish, national president. A com- mittee, consisting of one layman from each of the more than 75 parishes, is in charge of the arrangements. Bishop Freeman is expected to pre- sent in his address the importance of the “Forward Movement” within the Episcopal Church, which was author- ized at the general convention in Atlantic City last Autumn, in which he took a leading part. Reservations for the dinner should be made through Mr. Roberts at his office in the Woodward Building, or his home, 2253 Mount View place southeast, or through any of the local parish representatives. An offer- tory duet from “The Messiah,” by Handel, will be sung by Mrs. G. J. Chaillet and Mrs. Mitchell Marques. ‘The choir will sing “Holy Art Thou,” by Handel. The Sunday School begins a two- hour program tomorrow morning, under the direction of Miss Hazel M. Anderson, parish worker. Dr. Elise H. Martens, senior specialist in charge of the work of exceptional children with the United States Office of Education, will be the curriculum adviser. A teachers’ training course will begin its study under the instruction of Dr. Martens tomorrow morning. Ash Wednesday will be observed by an evening service at 8 o'clock.
