Professor, Once G. W. U. Dean, Was Widely Known in Profession. l Dr. William F. R. Phillips, visiting professor of anatomy at Georgetown 1 University School of Medicine and | formerly on the staff of George Wash- ington University, died yesterday of preumonia. He was 72 years old and | unmarried. Dr. Phillips, who was stricken about | a week ago, died at the Georgetown | University Hospital. He had served two years on the Georgetown faculty. A native of Bedford County, Pa. | where he was born on July 13, 1863, | he received his medical degree in 1890 | from Columbian College, now George | Washington University. Soon after he was appointed climatologist of the Weather Bureau from 1895 to 1904 and was also in charge of the library. Made Medical Dean. A vear after his graduation Dr. Phillips was named on the Columbian medical faculty and later was made dean of the department of medicine, serving in that capacity from 1904 to 1908. He also served as professor of ; anatomy. In later years he served on the faculties of University of Alabama and the Medical College of South| Carolina, at Charleston. He was a member of the Philosoph- ical Society of Washington, the Washington Medical Society, the Medical Soclety of South Carolina and the South Carolina Medical As-| sociation and was an associate member of the Association of American Medi- cal Colleges and a fellow of the Fed- eration of State Medical Boards of the United States. He also belonged to | the Cosmos Club. = Was Widely Recognized, Dr. Phillips had written many| articles on medical subjects and was idely recognized as an authority in the field of anatomy. | He was active also in Masonic | circles, being past master of Hiram | Lodge and was a member also of the | Chapter and Council of the anhvv Templar. Mrs. Caroline Sanger, widow of Raphael Sanger, died Friday at Emer- gency Hospital from injuries received in a fall at her home, 2714 Ontario road. She was 88 years old. Mrs. Sanger, a native of Germany, had lived in Washington 75 years. She was a member of Deborah Lodge and Sisterhood of the Washington Hebrew Congregation. She is survived by three sons, Moses, David and Harry Sanger, and three Sophia, Essie and Rena Sanger, all residing here; three grand- children, Mrs. Paul Broida of Park- ersburg, W. Va, and Marian and Robert Sanger of New York, and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at the home tomorrow at 2:30 pm. Burial will be in the Washington Hebrew Cemetery. BENJAMIN B. MITCHELL, VIRGINIA TEACHER, DIES Funeral Services for Former School Principal Will Be Held Today. Special Dispatch to The Star. CULPEPER, Va, February 16— Prof. Benjamin B. Mitchell, for many years principle of the Brandy High School, dled at his home here yes- terday following a heart attack. He was a native of Page County, but well known throughout this sec- tion as an educator. He is survived his widow and four sons and daughters: Prof. B. B. Mitchell, jr., Asheville, N. C.: Mrs. Anne Mitchell Margogni, Washington, D. C.; Miss Eula Mitchell, Brandy Station, and G. William Mitchell, treasurer of Cul- peper County. Funeral services will be held at the residence at Brandy Station tomorrow and the body will be taken to the former home of the family in the valley for burial. BROKEN NECK FATAL Mary V.
