NEW YORK, January 3.—Most curb atocks held within a narrow trading | range today with a sieady tone in| alcohols and industrials and a mixed trend in utilities and oils. Trading was restricted during the forenoon, due to the fact, it was said in brokerage circles, that most traders | held neutral positions pending a better insight into the national political trend in Washington, where the seventy-fourth Congress gathered for i8s initial session. Reflecting a highly satisfactory holiday trade, leading liquor stocks, including Hiram Walker and Distillers | Corp.-Seagrams gained around a point 1n active tracing. Slightly higher prices were paid for | some of the industrials and mer-| chandising shares, including A. O. Smith, Pittsburgh Plate Gl and | Mock, Judson & Voeth.
