Joseph Sizoo. pastor of the New York Averue Presbyterian Church, will deliver the invocation at the ceremonies of the lighting of the Natfonal Community Christmas tree in the Lafayette Square Christmas eve at 5 o'clock. The benediction will be given by Father Edmund A. Walsh of George- town University, in the ceremony at which President Roosevelt is expect- ed to press the button, illuminating the Christmas tree. At that time the President will give his Christmas greeting to the people of the United States over a Nation-wide hook-up of radio sta- tions. Roper Heads Committee. If he is present, the Chief Execu- tive will be introduced by Daniel Roper, Secretary of Commerce, who is chairman of the National Commit- tee for the 1934 Community Christmas tree. Secretary Roper will preside at the ceremonies which will include the singing of Yuletide carols and which will be preceded by a concert by the United States Marine Band. con- ducted by Capt. The National Electrical Supply Co. will arrange for the amplification of | the Christmas carol singing at the ceremonies, and the arrangements for the “singing” of the tree itself, which for the last two years has been an interesting new feature of the living Christmas tree in Sherman Square, will be carried on in the branches of the living spruce in Lafayette Square by C. H. Maher, who origi- nated the idea in 1932 The American Automobile Associa- tion will again this year provide and distribute thousands of Christmas greeting cards to the hotels, res- taurants, clubs and other public places throughout the city where ors to the city gather on Christmas eve, extending Yuletide greetings, and an invitation to par- ticipate in the ceremonies at the Na- tion’s living Christmas tree, planted just north of the White House, in Lafayette Square. Shehan LUDWIG LEWISOHN, Internationally known novelist and critic, who will speak tonight at 8:15 o'clock at the Jewish Com- munity Center, Sixteenth and Q streets. This is Mr. Lewisohn's first lecture tour in this country in 10 years. He will be introduced by Louis Ottenberg. His subject will be “The Spirit of America in Its Literature.” THER WISE A AGAN SCHEDULED Drama to Be Played for| 10th Time—First Rehear- | sal on Tuesday. Washington's established Christmas drama-festival, based on Henry Van Dyke's legend. “The Other Wise Man,” will be presented for its tenth | consecutive season December 26, 27 and 28 at the Luther Place Me- morial Church on Thomas Circle. Hundreds of Washingtonians and visitors have crowded the church au- ditorium each season that the Chapel Plavers of Washington have pre- sented the Christmas drama. As usual, | it will be under the direction of Miss Bess Davis Schreiner. Many in Artaban Role. About 75 players take part in the drama. in which music plays an im- portant role. It has been the custom of well known local players to appear in the leading role of Artaban, “the other wise man,” who saw the Star of Bethlehem and set out to follow it, but who failed to arrive at the man- ger-cradle of the Christ-child with Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar, as. told in the Bible story. Created in 1925 by Walter Beck, now a member of Eva Le Gallienne's Civic Repertory Co., the role of Arta- ban has since been played by Dennis E. Connel}, Maurice Jarvis and George Farrington. The neme of the player who has been chosen for the forth- coming presentation will be an- nounced after the first cast rehearsal next Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Luther Church. Miss Riggs Will Play. Katherine Riggs, Washington harp- ist, will appear in the important role of the Narrator, playing the harp dur- ing the interludes in the story. Miss Riggs has appeared in every perform- ance to date, as has Miss Judy Lyeth, in the role of the Parthian Slave Girl: | Irving L. Koch, Edward Eberly, Nor- | man P. Riess. Frank A. Burger and | others. Thomas M. Cahill will play | a leading role and the Three Wise Men will be well known singers of the | city. Citizens to Discuss Office.
