CURB SHARES RSE INACTIVE TRADING Oils Lead Market Into Higher Ground—Utilities Less Active. Bpecial Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, June 26 —Stocks staged & vigorous rally in today’s Curb Ex- change session, though trading was only moderately active and few big blocks appeared in the first several hours Utilities were not as active or as buoyant as in recent sessions, as in-| terest today was centered in the sharp | advances in commodity markets, and | hence in the shares of companies whose business is in the commodity field. Oil stocks were in the limelight as a result | of further price rises and the news of an | agreement among leading factors of the oil industry on their code under the | national industrial recovery act. Recent tests of open displays of |cameras and films placed on stands | within reach of customers have defi- nitely proven the value of removing all barriers between customers and merchandise. Sales of 125 stores equipped with open display stands showed increases of 48 per cent in film sales and 119 per cent in camera sales, compared with 125 similar stores not using open display. A fountain pen manufacturer found that a mechanical display in action shopped about 10| as many | times people per hour as when rot in motion. By far the greater proportion stopped between the hours of 2 to 6 in the afternocn and 8 and 10 |in the evening. People were too busy to stop and look in the morning. Ready-to-wear retailers are recover- ing waste display space by using vesti- bules for showing merchandise after stores are closed.
