TA—14 RETURNS OF GOLD 0 BANKS SUBSIDE Most Holders of Metal Have Complied With Law, Is Report BY EDWARD C. STONE. Local bankers reported today thatl. the flow of gold back to the banks and the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond practically stopped some time ago, so that the final date for “hoarders” to turn their wealth into some other form of money did not_cause even the slightest flurry. The rush to re- turn ‘hoarded gold” came right after the Treasury issued instructions to the Pederal Re- serve Bank gover- nors to secure the names from mem- ber banks of all hoarders who had nr:n transferred their treasure to (el gucenure % L. C. Shonts. Government vaults. by May 1. At that time over $30,000,000 was brought out of hiding in the fifth reserve district and put back into circulation. It developed that a good many de- ! positers in Washington banks had gold in safe deposit boxes, the largest amount brought to light by any one individual totaling $500,000. In the past few days, however, bankers say very little gold has made its appear- ance in local banks or at the Treasury. Shonts Adding Machine Official. L. C.
