[TALY AND FRANCE REVIVE ANIMOSITY i Mussolini Denies Statements Regarding Italo-German- Austrian Alliance. » ROME (P)—Attempts to realize s | betterment in Italo-French relations, 'bqunwlthtspeechbyuoanaxzr- riot when premier at Toulon and the appointment of Henri de Juvenel as lpedfl French Ambassador, have not met with all the success desired. De Juvenel came here in January under a six months’ appointment with the intention of straightening out Italo- French difficulties during that time if at all possible, Difficulties quickly arose. Italo-French animosities have been stirred up again over allegations during a meeting of the Foreign Relations Commission of the French Chamber of Deputies that Italy, Germany and Hun- gary had formed an alliance. Herriot Adds Weight. ‘They were given greater weight by the fact the commission interrogated Herriot concerning the supposed al- liance, and Herriot, instead of denying it, said it had not come to his at- tention during his term in office. Mussolini denied to his cabinet the truth of these statements, saying they were “lying inventions and if they had not been made before the Chamber of Deputies Commission, would not be worth denying.” His newspaper, Popolo d'Italia, pub- lished a strong editorial, seemingly in- spired by the Duce himself, if not writ- ten by »m. Decries Talk of Peace. “Who can seriously believe in at- tempts to realize a better situation be- tween Feance and Italy asked the editorial. “Who can place any weight in them if they are based on false- hood? How can one favor a rapproche- ment by mystifications, by & spirit of poisonous hostility? “The truth is that Prance does not wish to disarm. She will not renounce a single rifle, but she finds it neces- sary, in order to create an alibl before the world, to conjure up phantasms of alliances and dlm‘en of war on the Rhine and in the Alps. “Prance, with her armaments, with her spirit’ of intransigeance, with her ferocious egoism and with her program of ignorance concerning the develop- | ments and needs of other peoples, with her alliances, with her press financed OF | by cannon-makers, threatens the peace | of Europe and of the world.” | Quick Change of Costumes. There is some considerable activity |among the performers in the presen- | tation” of “Casanova,” which recently finished a long run in London and is |now on tour. Hundreds of performers, |at each of the twice-daily presenta- | tions, change their costumes 1,620 times |all told; at the 400th performance the changes numbered 648,000. It's a sight to watch the dressers—48 of them— | working at lightning speed during the | quick-change moments. Scores of per- formers have to get in and out of cos- tumes within a matter of seconds six or seven times an evening. LEGAL NOTICES. MAURICE D. ROSENBERG AND LEON FRETZFELDER, Atiorncrs tor Plaiml.
